Tourist Loses Both Hands in Shark Attack While Posing for Photo
A Canadian tourist had a terrifying encounter with a shark that left her without both hands after attempting to take a photo with the predator on a beach in Turks and Caicos. The incident unfolded last Friday when the woman, whose identity remains undisclosed, decided to get into the ocean for what she likely thought would be a memorable snapshot.

Witnesses reported that the 55-year-old woman ventured just a few meters from the shore to interact with the shark for the picture. However, the situation took a horrific turn when the shark suddenly attacked, biting off both of her hands in one swift motion. The woman's family, who were present on the shore, helplessly watched as the terrifying event unfolded before their eyes.
Photos captured at the scene depict the woman lying on the sandy shoreline surrounded by concerned beachgoers who rushed to her aid, using cloths to stem the profuse bleeding from her severed arms.

Although official details regarding the shark species involved in the attack have not been released, local authorities estimated the predator to be approximately 6 feet long. While the specific breed remains unconfirmed, speculation circulating online suggests it may have been a bull shark, a species commonly found in the waters around the island.
Eye-witnesses recounted the lingering presence of the shark near the shore following the attack, with one individual sharing their experience of the predator remaining in the vicinity for an extended period. In response to the distressing incident, the Royal Turks and Caicos Police promptly dispatched medical personnel and law enforcement officers to the scene near Blue Hills, Providenciales.

Following the attack, the victim was swiftly brought ashore and transported to the Cheshire Hall Medical Centre for urgent medical attention. Reports indicate that the woman underwent surgery, resulting in the amputation of one hand at the wrist and the other at the mid-forearm. She is currently receiving ongoing medical care in Canada.
An individual present during the incident mentioned that despite the traumatic ordeal, the woman managed to walk back to the shore after the initial attack. Additionally, the victim sustained a bite on her thigh during the encounter but fortunately did not lose her leg in the assault.

Amidst the chaos, the woman's husband courageously intervened, attempting to fend off the shark to protect his wife. However, the predator persisted in its aggression, circling back to launch another attack on the woman.
