Rashee Rice Faces Domestic Abuse Allegations in Lawsuit

Feb 19 2026

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice is at the center of a domestic abuse lawsuit filed by his former partner, Dacoda Jones. The suit was lodged in Dallas County District Court on February 16, detailing a series of alleged assaults that took place over an 18-month span.

Jones, who shares two sons with Rice, claims that the incidents occurred at their residences in Victory Park, Texas, and Lee’s Summit, Missouri, from December 2023 to July 2025. She is seeking damages exceeding $1 million.

The lawsuit outlines a disturbing pattern of behavior, alleging that Rice “grabbed, choked, strangled, pushed, thrown, scratched, hit and headbutted” Jones, as well as assaulted her with various objects. Reports indicate that these allegations were made public by multiple outlets.

Further claims in the lawsuit describe Rice's violent tendencies, including throwing items, damaging property, and even locking Jones out of their home during the night. Notably, many of these alleged incidents occurred while Jones was pregnant.

A spokesperson for the Kansas City Chiefs confirmed awareness of the lawsuit and stated that they are in ongoing communication with the National Football League regarding the matter.

Rice’s attorney, Sean Lindsey, responded to the allegations by referencing a sworn affidavit from Jones dated October 9, 2025. In this document, she reportedly stated under penalty of perjury that “Mr. Rice and I had a verbal argument, but he did not punch me.” Lindsey emphasized their intention to let the legal process unfold without further comment.

This lawsuit follows a social media post by Jones on January 7, where she hinted at experiencing domestic violence from a former partner without naming Rice. The post included graphic images of bruises and damage to her property, with Jones claiming she had endured abuse for years.

In response to the earlier social media allegations, the Chiefs reiterated their awareness and communication with the NFL but declined to provide additional comments.

Rice has previously been in the news for a serious car accident in March 2024 that resulted in injuries to multiple individuals. He was sentenced to five years of probation and 30 days in jail after pleading guilty to felony charges related to the incident. Prosecutors stated that Rice was driving at 119 miles per hour when the crash occurred.

In a statement following his sentencing in July 2025, Rice expressed remorse for his actions and emphasized the importance of safe driving. He stated, “There have been a lot of sleepless nights thinking about the damages that my actions caused.”

Rice was suspended for the first six games of the 2025 NFL season due to these legal issues but made his return during a game against the Las Vegas Raiders in October 2025.
