In a brief 15-second video, Collins revealed her intentions while unboxing a pair of New Balance sneakers. "This is perfect for 2026," she stated, brandishing a sneaker. "Because, I'm running."
At 73 years old, Collins seeks a sixth term in the Senate, having first been elected in 1996. As chair of the influential Senate Appropriations Committee, she plays a crucial role in shaping annual funding decisions.
Known for her independent stance within the GOP, Collins often diverges from party lines, drawing criticism from figures like former President Trump, who recently remarked that she "should never be elected to office again."
While Collins has successfully navigated past challenges from Democrats, the upcoming race presents uncertainties, especially in a state where Kamala Harris secured victory by nearly seven points in 2024.
The identity of her challenger remains unclear.
