Dodgers’ Alex Vesia Breaks Down While Honoring Late Daughter After Heartfelt Victory
Amidst the cheers of Dodger Stadium, Alex Vesia found himself grappling with deep emotions as he reflected on his late daughter, Sterling, following a significant win for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
In a nail-biting finish, Vesia, 30, secured the save by striking out three batters in the bottom of the ninth inning, leading the Dodgers to a 2-1 victory over the New York Mets on April 14. This game coincided with Healthcare Appreciation Night, adding layers of significance to the evening.

During a poignant postgame interview with Spectrum Sportsnet, Vesia was encouraged to look up at the stands where medical professionals who supported him and his wife, Kayla, during their heartbreaking loss were present. The sight overwhelmed him.
“I’m gonna cry, man,” he admitted, visibly moved. “This is a very emotional day. Everyone up there played a very, very, very big part. [Kayla] and I are just so happy to at least be able to share today. For me to get a save, it’s unbelievable.”
The couple faced unimaginable grief when they announced the passing of their newborn daughter in October 2025. “Our little angel we love you forever & you’re with us always,” they shared on social media. “Our beautiful daughter went to heaven Sunday October 26th. There are no words to describe the pain we’re going through but we hold her in our hearts and cherish every second we had with her.”
In their heartfelt message, they expressed gratitude towards the Dodgers organization for their unwavering support during such a challenging time. “Thank you to the Dodgers for their understanding and support during this time. Our baseball family showed up for us and we wouldn’t be able to do this without them.”

Just before the Dodgers were set to face off against the Toronto Blue Jays in the World Series, the team announced that Alex would be stepping away due to a “deeply personal family matter.”
After the game, the Dodgers took to social media to celebrate Vesia’s achievement, stating, “The Vesias had a special group in attendance for tonight’s game and Alex got the save. 💖”

Kayla responded with enthusiasm on the post, exclaiming, “What a way to end the night!!!!! 💖.”
As the 2026 season approached, the Vesias shared insights into their journey through grief. “The lesson we learned from this is that life can change in an instant, and for us, ten minutes is all it took,” they wrote on Instagram. “Sterling Sol was the most beautiful little girl in the world. We got to hold her, change her diaper, read to her, and love her. Our time together was far too short.”

They continued with a heartfelt plea for privacy as they navigate their healing process: “Kay and I will keep those precious moments and memories to ourselves and hope anyone listening can empathize and respect our wishes for privacy as we continue to heal and as we navigate the ups and downs of a baseball season. I was not prepared to bring my baby girl home, but we are carrying her with us every single day.”
