Gavin Newsom Declares Kid Rock Unwelcome in California Following 'Creepy' Workout Clip

Feb 24 2026

California Governor Gavin Newsom has taken a bold stance, declaring Kid Rock persona non grata in the state due to a recently surfaced workout video featuring the musician and Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

The 90-second clip, which showcases both men shirtless, was intended to promote the “Make America Healthy Again” initiative. In a sauna-like setting, they performed pushups, with Kid Rock notably flipping the middle finger at the camera during the session.

In an unusual choice of attire, Kennedy, 72, completed his workout in jeans, even submerging himself in a tub while still dressed. This peculiar display did not sit well with Newsom.

“I HAVE SEEN ENOUGH,” proclaimed Newsom’s official press office account on X. “AS GOVERNOR OF THE FREE WORLD, I, GAVIN C. NEWSOM, AM OFFICIALLY BANNING ‘KID ROCK’ FROM CALIFORNIA. HIS SHIRTLESS VIDEO WITH ‘SECRETARY BRAINWORM’ WAS INAPPROPRIATE, CREEPY, AND VERY LOW ENERGY. NOT WHAT YOU WANT AROUND OUR CHILDREN!”

Newsom’s team further criticized the workout, stating, “ALSO, SOME OF THE WEAKEST PUSHUPS EVER WITNESSED. CALIFORNIA ONLY ALLOWS WINNERS! I AM ALSO BANNING WORKING OUT IN JEANS, VERY STRANGE!” This statement echoed the style of former President Donald Trump’s posts on Truth Social.

Social media users quickly ridiculed the workout video, with even panelists from Fox News’ The Five expressing confusion over the bizarre scene.

Fox News military analyst Johnny Jones remarked on Kennedy’s choice of jeans during the workout. “Listen, somebody needs to tell RFK Jr. it’s OK to wear shorts. I mean, bro, don’t be upset about your legs,” he said. “I don’t care what they look like. Take it from me, nobody needs impressive legs. You look great with your shirt off. Throw the shorts on so we don’t all go, ‘Wow, that’s weird.’”

Kennedy previously defended his gym attire choice, claiming that wearing jeans was simply “convenient” and that he has grown accustomed to it.

In other news for Kid Rock, his Rock the Country festival faced challenges earlier this month when a planned stop in South Carolina was canceled after several artists withdrew from the lineup.

The festival, branded as a “MAGA fest,” was set to take place in Anderson, South Carolina, on July 25 but had to be scrapped following the exit of multiple performers, including rock band Shinedown.
