Halo Voice Actor Demands Removal from Trump’s Iran War Propaganda

Steve Downes, the voice behind Master Chief in the Halo video game franchise, has publicly denounced the Trump administration for using his iconic lines in a video that promotes military action against Iran. The clip, shared on official White House social media accounts, juxtaposes military footage with scenes from various films and TV shows, including Iron Man 2 and Gladiator.

In a striking blend of visuals, the video is titled “Justice the American Way” and features Downes’ voice delivering the catchphrase “Finishing the fight.” This phrase, synonymous with the Halo series, has now been co-opted to support a military agenda. The video culminates with a scene of a U.S. strike on an Iranian vessel, followed by an animated character exclaiming, “Now end this!” The White House logo appears as a voice declares “Flawless Victory,” a nod to the Mortal Kombat franchise.

Downes took to X to express his outrage, stating there was “at least one propaganda video” utilizing his voice without consent. He emphasized that these videos were either produced or endorsed by the White House. “Let me make this crystal clear: I did not participate in nor was I consulted, nor do I endorse the use of my voice in this video, or the message it conveys,” he asserted. “I demand that the producers of this disgusting and juvenile war porn remove my voice immediately.”

The White House has yet to respond to Downes’ demands. However, the video also included a clip from Tropic Thunder, prompting a reaction from Ben Stiller, who directed and starred in the film. Stiller tweeted, “Hey White House, please remove the Tropic Thunder clip. We never gave you permission and have no interest in being a part of your propaganda machine. War is not a movie.”

This incident is not isolated; the White House has previously faced criticism for sharing videos that splice real conflict footage with video game content. Just last week, they released a video combining missile strikes with scenes from Call of Duty, which drew significant backlash.

On another occasion, they shared a video that featured strike footage alongside a well-known line from Grand Theft Auto: “Ah s***, here we go again.” After each strike depicted in the video, the word “wasted” flashed across the screen—a reference familiar to gamers when their character dies in the game.

The caption for this particular video read: “OPERATION EPIC FURY. Destroy Iran’s missile arsenal. Destroy their navy. Ensure they NEVER get a nuclear weapon. Locked in.” In response to the ensuing criticism, White House spokesperson Anna Kelly defended the content, stating: “Under the decisive leadership of President Trump, America’s heroic warfighters are meeting or surpassing all of their goals under Operation Epic Fury.”

Kelly further remarked that legacy media outlets were attempting to undermine the administration’s efforts to highlight military successes against Iran’s ballistic missile capabilities and nuclear ambitions.

As of now, reports indicate that at least 1,230 individuals have lost their lives in the ongoing conflict since it escalated on February 28. Among these casualties are 397 in Lebanon and 11 in Israel, according to sources. The U.S. has also suffered losses; seven service members have died during active duty, including 26-year-old Sgt. Benjamin N. Pennington, who succumbed to injuries sustained during an attack on U.S. troops at Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia.

The joint military operations by the U.S. and Israel commenced on February 28, resulting in significant casualties among Iranian officials, including the supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Following these events, Iranian officials announced that Khamenei's son, Mojtaba Khamenei, would succeed him.

In retaliation, Iran has launched attacks against U.S. bases and allies across at least ten countries in the region. Reports indicate that Iranian forces have targeted locations in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, and Bahrain. Additionally, U.S. bases in Iraq and Jordan have faced assaults or asset interceptions from Iranian forces. A British Royal Air Force base in Cyprus has also been caught in the crossfire of these retaliatory actions.
