Iran Threatens Severe Retaliation if Israel Continues Attacks on Lebanon
Iran's Revolutionary Guards have issued a stern ultimatum, declaring a "regret-inducing response" if Israel persists in its military actions against Lebanon. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) emphasized that strikes must cease "immediately," as reported by state media.
"If the aggressions against dear Lebanon are not brought to an immediate end, we shall fulfill our duty and deliver a regret-inducing response to the malicious aggressors in the region," the IRGC stated, underscoring the gravity of the situation.
In a related statement, an IRGC official remarked, "Any attack on the proud Hezbollah is an attack on Iran," highlighting the interconnectedness of regional conflicts. The official further noted, "The [military] field is preparing a heavy response to the regime’s savage crimes," referring specifically to Israel's actions.
As violence escalated, hundreds were reported killed or injured in recent strikes, according to Lebanon’s Civil Defence. The skies over Beirut were filled with plumes of black smoke as residents sifted through debris from the destruction.
The Israeli military confirmed it executed what it described as the "largest strike" on Lebanon since hostilities began, targeting over 100 sites linked to Hezbollah within a mere ten minutes. "The strike targeted 100+ Hezbollah headquarters, military arrays, & command-and-control centers in Beirut, Beqaa and southern Lebanon," the IDF detailed in a post on social media.
Despite claims of a ceasefire brokered by Iran and Pakistan, which both believe it applies to Lebanon, the US and Israel have rejected this interpretation. Tensions remain high as Iran's Revolutionary Guards reiterated their stance against continued aggression.
In Iran, reports indicate no casualties in the first 24 hours following the ceasefire announcement. The Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) documented at least 20 attacks across four provinces without any fatalities or injuries, suggesting a significant decrease in violence compared to previous days.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah has retaliated against Israeli forces, claiming responsibility for rocket attacks on northern Israel. "This response will continue until the Israeli-American aggression against our country and our people ceases," Hezbollah declared, signaling their commitment to ongoing resistance.
