JD Vance's Disastrous Attendance at Speaking Engagement Sparks Online Frenzy
Vice President JD Vance faced a stark reality Tuesday at Akins Ford Arena in Athens, Georgia, where the crowd size fell woefully short of expectations. A viral clip captured by MS NOW reporter Jake Traylor showcased an arena that appeared “less than 25% filled” during Vance's address.
The Associated Press described the scene as “the mostly empty arena,” while reports indicated that tickets were offered for free, amplifying the embarrassment surrounding the turnout. The Daily Beast highlighted this aspect, framing it as a significant misstep for Vance, who is often discussed as a potential successor to President Donald Trump in the 2028 election.
Traylor’s footage from the Turning Point USA event revealed not only a lack of attendees but also suggested that CEO Erika Kirk’s last-minute withdrawal due to security concerns might have deterred potential participants.
Despite some local media outlets, including the Athens Banner Herald and The Red & Black, opting not to mention the sparse attendance, the online discourse was far from forgiving. Observers took to social media to express their disbelief at the turnout, with one quipping, “I’m sorry but Bingo gets bigger crowds than that!”
Another commenter noted, “I’m amazed there’s even that many people there,” while a third remarked, “These Turning Point people are just so tired of winning they can’t bother to show up anymore.”
One particularly humorous remark suggested a personal touch: “JD Vance just tried to call his mom from onstage and she refused to pick up.”

Adding to the atmosphere, Vance was met with heckling from detractors within the arena, further underscoring the challenges he faces in rallying support.
HuffPost has reached out to Turning Point USA, the White House, and the arena for comments regarding the event and its turnout.
