Top Democrat Proposes Actions for Melania Trump to Assist Epstein Inquiry

During a recent press event, first lady Melania Trump distanced herself from convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, prompting criticism from Rep. Robert Garcia (D-Calif.), a key member of the Oversight Committee. Garcia suggested that if Trump genuinely wishes to contribute to the ongoing investigation, she should take decisive actions.

“The first lady has clearly created a separation between her role and that of her husband’s administration,” Garcia stated on MS Now. “If she truly wants to assist in this investigation, she should urge her husband to release all remaining Epstein files and ensure that Pam Bondi testifies.”

Melania Trump’s unexpected press conference garnered mixed reactions, as she called for a congressional hearing for Epstein’s victims while addressing rumors regarding her connections to Epstein and his associate, Ghislaine Maxwell.

Despite her efforts to distance herself from Epstein’s circle, Garcia expressed skepticism about the effectiveness of her statements. He referenced a 2002 email exchange between Trump, then known as Knauss, and Maxwell, which surfaced this year and suggested a more amicable relationship than she now claims.

“This raises numerous questions. We’re left wondering why she chose to speak out now. Is she attempting to preemptively address information that may come to light?” Garcia pondered.

Survivors of Epstein’s abuse criticized the first lady’s remarks, describing them as “shifting the burden onto survivors under politicized conditions that protect those with power.”

“While I appreciate that she has opened up a dialogue about this issue—especially since her husband seems intent on downplaying it—the files must be released. That’s where the first lady can make a difference,” Garcia emphasized.

He labeled the press event as “really bizarre,” highlighting how President Donald Trump previously dismissed the scandal as a “hoax” and noted that acting Attorney General Todd Blanche had indicated that the files “will not be part of anything going forward” in the Department of Justice.

Garcia expressed a strong interest in hearing from Melania Trump. “We’ve made it clear before, and I’ll reiterate: we would like to speak with the first lady if she possesses any information regarding Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell and their horrific crimes against women and children. We want to hear from anyone who can shed light on this matter,” he concluded.
