Who Is Amanda Ungaro and Why the Internet Believes She Sparked Melania Trump's Epstein Denial
First Lady Melania Trump’s unexpected denial of any ties to Jeffrey Epstein has ignited a flurry of online chatter, with Amanda Ungaro emerging as a focal point in the discussion.
Social media users are connecting the dots between Ungaro, a former Brazilian diplomat and ex-partner of Trump associate Paolo Zampolli, and Trump’s rare public remarks made from the White House on Thursday. Despite the timing, no credible sources have confirmed that Ungaro played a role in prompting the First Lady's statement.
Two narratives—one involving Epstein and another concerning immigration—have converged in the public consciousness.

Ungaro, who hails from Brazil, has navigated elite political and social circles for years. As reported, she previously served as Grenada's ambassador to the United Nations, focusing on environmental issues and the "blue economy."
Her long-term relationship with Zampolli, an Italian-American businessman credited with introducing Melania Trump to Donald Trump in 1998, adds another layer to her story. The couple shares a teenage son but parted ways in 2021.
Ungaro’s connection to Zampolli places her within the broader Trump social network. Public event photos, including those from the 2017 inauguration, depict her alongside Zampolli and other figures linked to the First Family.
Her name resurfaced in headlines following her 2025 arrest in Miami on fraud charges related to a medical spa venture. Although she pleaded not guilty, immigration authorities detained her after discovering her visa had expired years prior.
The case gained national attention when Zampolli reportedly contacted a senior Immigration and Customs Enforcement official regarding Ungaro's situation while she was in custody. He has denied any intent to seek preferential treatment or influence her deportation. The Department of Homeland Security has also dismissed claims of political interference, asserting that her removal stemmed from immigration violations.
After her deportation to Brazil, Ungaro described her experience as devastating, hinting at possible influential connections without providing verified evidence.
In a brief statement, she asserted that Epstein did not introduce her to her husband, denied ever being on his plane or island, and labeled the allegations against her as "baseless," opting not to take questions.
Simultaneously, viral posts on X and various tabloids suggested that Ungaro had publicly criticized Melania Trump and threatened legal action. Some claims indicated that Ungaro referenced past connections with the First Lady and alleged abandonment during her ICE custody.
These assertions remain unverified, and no official link has been established between Ungaro's comments and Melania Trump's decision to address the Epstein allegations.
Nevertheless, the intersection of these events has fueled a narrative online: that Ungaro's situation and purported statements compelled a response from the First Lady.
