Barstool's Dave Portnoy Demands Jail Time for Tiger Woods Following DUI Arrest: 'No Sympathy Here'

Apr 01 2026

In the wake of Tiger Woods' DUI arrest on March 27, Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy has made his position clear: he believes Woods should face jail time.

“What is wrong with Tiger Woods?” Portnoy questioned during the March 30 episode of his podcast, “Wake Up Barstool.” He emphasized the need for accountability, stating, “He should have a driver with him wherever he goes. There is no excuse.”

Portnoy elaborated on the dangers of impaired driving, saying, “When you get behind the wheel impaired, you’re not just putting yourself at risk; you’re endangering innocent people on the road.”

The incident occurred in Jupiter Island, Florida, where Woods, 50, was arrested following a rollover accident. He faces charges including DUI, property damage, and refusal to submit to a lawful test after declining a urinalysis despite passing a breathalyzer.

According to an arrest affidavit, Woods had two hydrocodone pills in his possession and exhibited signs of impairment, described as “lethargic and slow,” with “bloodshot and glassy” eyes and “extremely dilated” pupils.

“You can’t make light of it, and I have no sympathy for the guy,” Portnoy stated firmly. “Put him behind bars. Put him in jail for a little bit and make him wake up.”

This isn’t Woods’ first brush with the law; he was previously arrested in 2017 for a suspected DUI after being found asleep at the wheel. He admitted to taking painkillers and ultimately pleaded guilty to reckless driving, resulting in community service and probation.

Woods also faced serious consequences after a 2021 crash where he was allegedly speeding over 80 miles per hour—twice the limit—though no charges were filed. His history includes a notable incident in 2009 when he crashed into a fire hydrant amid allegations of infidelity, which led to a careless driving charge.

Portnoy’s comments reflect a growing concern about Woods’ behavior. “It’s not hard,” he reiterated. “Seriously, you cannot have sympathy for the guy right now. Get a driver; you’re going to kill somebody innocent.”

Criticism of Woods has been widespread since his latest arrest. Retired NFL player Emmanuel Acho voiced his disapproval on his late-night sports talk show, Speakeasy, stating, “Tiger, you got too many responsibilities... to be going to jail for DUIs.”

Golf analyst Brandel Chamblee suggested that Woods might need to reconsider his future in golf altogether. “Why would he need to play golf anymore?” Chamblee asked during Golf Central. “I think he should probably ask himself that.”
