Bonnie Tyler's Final Bow: A Powerhouse Performance Before Sudden Death

Jul 09 2026

Bonnie Tyler delivered a powerhouse rendition of "Total Eclipse of the Heart" during her final performance, leaving fans stunned just days before her unexpected death.

The Grammy nominee lit up London's Shepherd's Bush Empire on March 19, showcasing her iconic voice and engaging the audience by holding the microphone out for their participation.

Decked out in a sparkly top, matching pants, and a black blazer, Tyler appeared vibrant and full of life as she belted out the '80s anthem.

Despite plans to perform in Cardiff two days later, those shows were postponed. By the end of April, Tyler faced a dire situation, hospitalized in Faro, Portugal, due to a severe tear in her bowel.

Born Gaynor Sullivan, she underwent emergency intestinal surgery and was placed in a medically induced coma due to complications from the operation.

When doctors attempted to awaken her from the coma, she suffered cardiac arrest but ultimately regained consciousness in June.

However, her team reported that she remained "seriously ill" and faced a lengthy recovery process ahead.

On Thursday, news broke of Tyler's death at age 75.

A spokesperson announced, "Bonnie’s family and team are heartbroken to announce that Bonnie unexpectedly passed away last night in hospital in Portugal as a result of the illness that she was being treated for."

The statement requested privacy for the family during this tragic time.

Just before her health crisis, Tyler expressed to Hello! magazine that she felt "fit enough" to perform "at the moment."

She humorously added, "Touch wood. I’m really enjoying doing the shows. I’m still rocking on that stage with my wonderful band, and if you’ve got your health, you’ve got everything.”

Tyler is survived by her husband Robert Sullivan and had plans for a European tour in May.

The cause of death remains unknown.
