Erika Kirk Took Cover Under Table as Gunfire Erupted at Correspondents’ Dinner
Erika Kirk was seen in distress as she was escorted from the Washington Hilton following a shooting incident that disrupted the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday night.
In a video shared by CNN’s Sara Sidner, Erika hurriedly exited the ballroom, visibly shaken, expressing her desire to return home: “I just want to go home.”
The alleged shooter has been identified as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen from California.
This incident comes just six months after her husband, Charlie Kirk, was fatally shot while addressing a Turning Point USA event in Utah. Following his death, Erika assumed the role of CEO for the right-wing activist organization. Earlier this month, she withdrew from an event with Vice President JD Vance due to threats she received.
Earlier that evening, photographs captured a smiling Erika alongside Fox News personality Lawrence Jones and controversial Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard.
As a guest of Fox News, Bret Baier reported witnessing Erika in tears in a back hallway, understandably distressed after the loss of her husband.
Witnesses noted that FBI Director Kash Patel was seen comforting her during the chaotic moments.
While the president was unharmed and quickly removed from the stage, the armed suspect, who was reportedly a guest at the venue, was taken into custody and is expected to appear in court on Monday. Authorities believe he acted alone but have not disclosed his intended target or motive.
“When you’re impactful, they go after you. When you’re not impactful, they leave you alone,” Trump remarked two hours later at the White House, still in his tuxedo and unharmed. “They seem to think he was a lone wolf.”
The shooting occurred just outside the expansive ballroom filled with thousands of attendees, interrupting an event meant to celebrate journalism and the First Amendment. This year’s dinner was particularly scrutinized as it marked Trump’s first attendance since taking office.

Trump later expressed hope that the event could be rescheduled within 30 days, although the incident raised immediate concerns about security measures at an event frequented by high-ranking government officials.
A video released by Trump depicted the suspect breaching security barriers as Secret Service agents rushed toward him. One officer sustained injuries but was reported to be recovering; the gunman was subdued without injury and taken to a hospital for evaluation.
Allen faces two firearm-related charges, including assaulting an officer with a deadly weapon.
On Friday, reports indicated that Erika facilitated a meeting at the White House involving President Trump, Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and MAHA advocates amid their growing dissatisfaction with the administration.
She organized this meeting with disgruntled Make America Great Again moms and others earlier this month, according to sources.

This intervention came as a recent poll revealed that nearly half of MAHA supporters feel Trump’s administration has not adequately addressed their concerns, despite their significant role in his election campaign for 2024.
