Euphoria's Sydney Sweeney Scene Sparks Outrage After Glass Table Assault
In a shocking display of violence, Sydney Sweeney's character Cassie gets slammed through a glass table in the latest episode of Euphoria, leaving viewers reeling. The brutal moment aired in season three, episode seven, titled "Rain or Shine," on May 24, and fans wasted no time voicing their outrage on social media.
The episode features Cassie being unceremoniously dropped from her television show while Maddy (played by Alexa Demie) seizes control of her career. The plot thickens when loan shark Naz's (Jack Topalian) henchmen kidnap Cassie to pressure Nate (Jacob Elordi) into settling his debts. Meanwhile, Sweeney's boyfriend, Scooter Braun, reportedly has "no issue" with her explicit scenes.
Viewers were horrified as Cassie was violently thrown through a $100 glass table, prompting one user to exclaim, "THIS SCENE!? #euphoria." Another chimed in, "They’ve really gone far this time. From violating Nate to this????" A third viewer questioned the show's direction, stating, "W-f is going on in this show man. Why have I seen a guy choke slam Sydney Sweeney through a glass table like it's prime time WWE?"
The backlash against Sweeney intensifies as critics target her character's storyline this season, which heavily emphasizes OnlyFans and sexually explicit content. Industry experts have weighed in on the implications of her role. Crisis management expert Dave Quast told Fox News Digital that while Euphoria established Sweeney as a daring performer, the focus on sexualized aspects risks narrowing her brand.
Quast stated, "Sexuality on screen is not inherently unserious. The problem is when it becomes the dominant shorthand for the actor." He emphasized that Sweeney must ensure her roles are perceived as character choices rather than defining her entire career.
Fans expressed their discontent with the material given to Sweeney. One viewer lamented, "Sydney Sweeney in season 3 is literally just humiliating her. I don’t get how they don’t see that it’s not about this; her role is reduced to basically HUMILIATING HER." Another added, "Sydney Sweeney’s storyline in Euphoria might be the worst I’ve ever seen on a show before lmao she’s insufferable."
Despite the criticism, some fans praised Sweeney's performance. One wrote, "Sydney Sweeney in Euphoria Season 3 Episode 7. She is the GOAT #Euphoria." Another commented on her acting in a previous episode, saying, "Sydney Sweeney absolutely killed this scene. The hesitation, the tears, the way Cassie scrolls through everything before finally deleting it... raw emotional acting. One of her best moments in S3."
