Gavin Newsom Unleashes Fury on Trump Following Mockery of His Dyslexia

Mar 12 2026

California Governor Gavin Newsom did not hold back as he confronted President Donald Trump, who recently mocked him for discussing his dyslexia and low SAT scores. The exchange escalated after Trump accused Newsom of racism and launched a series of attacks on the governor's openness regarding his learning difficulties.

On Wednesday, Trump took to Truth Social, criticizing Newsom following the resurfacing of a clip from the governor's book tour in Atlanta. “Gavin Newscum’s interview weeks ago was, perhaps, the most self-destructive interview I’ve ever seen,” Trump stated, asserting that Newsom had disqualified himself from being a presidential nominee for the Democrats.

Trump continued, “He said, in a speech, he was dumb, had low Boards, can’t read, has dyslexia, and has a mental disorder — A Cognitive Mess! On top of that, Black People are angry because he is obviously a racist.” His comments suggested that acknowledging dyslexia was detrimental to a political campaign, despite the fact that dyslexia is recognized as a neurodevelopmental condition rather than a mental disorder.

The American Brain Foundation defines dyslexia as a “brain-based learning disorder that causes difficulties with reading and processing written language.” It affects approximately 20% of the population, according to the Yale Center for Dyslexia and Creativity.

Newsom wasted no time in responding to Trump's remarks via an X post. “I spoke about my dyslexia. I know that’s hard for a brain-dead moron who bombs children and protects pedophiles to understand,” he retorted, showcasing his frustration with the president's comments.

During a campaign event in Hebron, Kentucky, Trump reiterated his disdain for Newsom, stating, “I don’t want the president of the United States to have a cognitive deficiency.” In a swift comeback, Newsom reposted Trump's speech on X with the remark, “Too late,” alluding to ongoing concerns about the cognitive health of the 79-year-old president.

In another post, Newsom quipped, “Grandpa’s talking about himself again. We wish him well — it’s never too late to seek mental treatment,” further emphasizing his critique of Trump's comments.

Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens came to Newsom's defense on Instagram, asserting that the governor's remarks about his SAT scores were not an attack but rather a moment of vulnerability regarding his personal journey. He encouraged people to consider the “full context” of Newsom’s statements rather than relying on edited clips.

Newsom gained attention for his candid admission during the event: “I’m like you. I’m no better than you. I’m a 960 SAT guy. And you know, I’m not trying to offend anyone [and] act ‘all there’ if you got 940.” This statement drew criticism from Fox News personalities who claimed he made offensive remarks to a “Black audience.” In response to host Sean Hannity's misleading edited clip on X, Newsom expressed his outrage over what he termed “fake fucking outrage.”
