Gran Convicted After Forcing 4-Year-Old to Down Whisky in Shocking Abuse
A four-year-old girl, China Record, met a tragic fate at the hands of her own grandmother, Roxanne Record, who forced her to drink an entire bottle of whisky as punishment.
In a chilling case of abuse, 57-year-old Roxanne was convicted of manslaughter after she made little China binge on Canadian Mist whisky, punishing her for merely taking a sip. Prosecutors revealed that the innocent child was forced to her knees and coerced into finishing a 750ml bottle while her mother, Kadjah Record, stood by without intervening.

Authorities discovered China unresponsive in their Baton Rouge home in April 2022. An autopsy later revealed a staggering blood alcohol content of 0.680—over eight times the legal limit for adult drivers.
Roxanne's conviction came after prosecutors painted a grim picture of a household steeped in cruelty. They described how China’s siblings were conditioned to view her as a "thief" for simply trying to access basic needs like food and water.

Assistant District Attorney Dana Cummings stated, "Her grandmother never, ever took to her, never liked her, treated her differently than she treated the other children. She just went on with daily life while she died."
The horrifying punishment began when China dared to sip from a whisky bottle left carelessly on the kitchen counter. What followed was a nightmare: Roxanne forced her to consume the rest of the bottle—around 1.6 pints of potent alcohol.

China's mother, Kadjah Record, is also facing charges related to this tragedy and will stand trial for her role in the events that unfolded.
Initially charged with murder, Roxanne was ultimately found guilty of manslaughter by a jury. During the trial, her defense attorney Caitlin Fowlkes argued that while China's death was undeniably tragic, it was an accident. She claimed that Roxanne attempted CPR in a desperate bid to save the girl and insisted that the prosecution could not prove the "specific intent" necessary for a first-degree murder charge.

As Roxanne awaits sentencing later this summer, the haunting memories of this house of horrors linger on, leaving a community grappling with the aftermath of such unimaginable cruelty.
