Gretchen Wilson's 'Redneck S**t' is a Wild Comeback to Country's Trashy Roots
Gretchen Wilson is diving headfirst into the chaos of her “trashy” country music legacy with a bold new track that pays homage to her iconic debut.

On May 1, she unleashed “Redneck S**t,” a raucous homage to her breakout hit “Redneck Woman.”

“For over 20 years, I’ve seen guys in the crowd belting out ‘I’m a Redneck Woman,’” Wilson revealed in an exclusive chat before her electrifying set at Country Thunder Florida in Clearwater. “I thought, ‘It’s time to write something for everyone, not just the ladies.’”

She emphasized, “This song is for anyone and everyone. It doesn’t matter where you’re from or what your background is. If you’ve ever wanted to get wild and muddy in the backyard, this is your jam!”
The 52-year-old singer boldly declared it “the most trashy, redneck song out there right now,” perfect for cranking up the energy.

During her performance at the waterfront venue, she dubbed it “the song of the summer,” telling the crowd they were among the first to experience it live.

Wilson wrapped up her high-energy set with the anthem that catapulted her to fame two decades ago, “Redneck Woman.”

When it dropped, “Redneck Woman” shattered the stereotype that female country artists had to be polished and prim. It transformed the term “redneck” into a badge of honor rather than a slur.

The track earned her a Grammy for Best Female Country Vocal Performance in 2005 and served as the lead single from her debut album, “Here for the Party,” which stormed the charts upon its May 2004 release.
Now, Wilson is re-recording “Here for the Party” as a star-studded duets project under her own label, Redneck Records. Collaborators confirmed so far include Tanya Tucker on “Redneck Woman” and Cody Johnson on “When I Think About Cheating,” with rumors swirling about Miranda Lambert, Travis Tritt, and Ella Langley joining in.

As part of her ongoing “Still Here For The Party” tour, Wilson rocked Country Thunder Florida and plans to keep the momentum going all summer long.

Staying true to her roots, Wilson credits her grounded nature to not hitting it big too early. “People connect with me because I’m real; what you see is what you get,” she shared.

And what about some of her most outrageous “redneck” moments? “I used to catch snapping turtles for my uncle’s Mulligan Stew. It’s pretty gross,” she laughed. “We do redneck stuff all the time.”

To keep the spirit alive, she’s been challenging fans to flaunt their own redneck sides. “Tag me in YOUR #RedneckSh*t. 😉🤟🏼,” she urged on Instagram, sharing behind-the-scenes clips from her new music video.
But Wilson wasn’t the only highlight at Country Thunder Florida. Festival-goers reveled in a weekend packed with performances against the stunning backdrop of Clearwater Harbor from May 8-10.

Dasha, who took the stage last Sunday, expressed her excitement about performing at such a beautiful venue, creating a “good vibe” leading up to her set.

She shared her pre-show rituals, which include meditating and working out to get centered before transforming into her larger-than-life stage persona. “The last 10 minutes before going on stage really hit me,” she said. “We huddle up, I give a speech, and we take a shot before rocking out!”

The festival also featured headliners like Gavin Adcock, Zach Top, and Kane Brown, alongside rising stars like Elizabeth Nichols and Max McNown.

During his closing performance last Sunday night, Brown brought his wife Katelyn Jae on stage for their duet “Thank God,” celebrating Mother’s Day with the crowd.
Shaboozey lit up the stage with fan-favorite tracks like “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” and delivered an emotional Mother’s Day tribute that resonated throughout the high-energy audience.
