ICE DEMANDS NORTH CAROLINA KEEP ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT IN CUSTODY AFTER TRIPLE FATALITY

Jul 23 2026

Three lives lost in a hit-and-run, and ICE is demanding North Carolina authorities keep the illegal immigrant responsible behind bars. Javiel Pena Sola, a Salvadoran national, allegedly mowed down three individuals in a vehicle on July 18 in Salisbury before fleeing the scene.

Two victims died instantly, while a third succumbed to injuries after being airlifted to a hospital. Witness Quindel Woods recounted the chaos, stating, “I heard people screaming … and they pulled the man out; and as they pulled him out, he started screaming.”

Sola's vehicle was later discovered submerged in a creek. He faces three counts of hit-and-run resulting in serious injury or death. ICE has filed a detainer with local authorities to ensure he remains in custody.

Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis revealed that Sola was previously arrested in 2016 but was released. He entered the U.S. through Arizona in April 2022. “Although ICE had arrested him in 2016, the Obama Administration RELEASED him into American communities,” she stated. “These deaths were 100% preventable. Open borders and sanctuary policies have deadly consequences.”

Sola's criminal record is alarming. It includes reckless endangerment, failure to stop after damaging an attended vehicle, and driving without a license in Maryland back in July 2015. He also faced charges for escaping from custody.

After his escape arrest in Maryland, law enforcement in Baltimore honored an ICE detainer and handed him over to federal agents in March 2016. Just two months later, he was released by the Obama administration, according to ICE.
