Influencer Ignites Fury Over Taylor Swift's Lavish Wedding Extravaganza
Hasan Piker unleashed a firestorm online, slamming Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce for their extravagant wedding that shut down streets and required a massive police presence.
The couple exchanged vows at Madison Square Garden, announcing their marriage on jumbotron screens with the words, "JUST MARRIED!" The event demanded extensive security measures, costing an estimated $160,000 for police services.

Approximately 130 officers from various city stations were deployed to manage the chaos surrounding the wedding. Roads around Madison Square Garden were closed, creating significant disruption for local residents.
Piker, a Twitch streamer, criticized the couple's lavish celebration, stating, "Controversial opinion: I think this is a dramatic misuse of public resources." He claimed to still be a fan of Swift but expressed his disapproval of the wedding's scale.
While it remains unclear how the costs were covered, private NYPD details are typically billed to the event organizers rather than funded by taxpayers. Piker continued his tirade, saying, "Sorry, I’m f---ing say it. I think it’s insane. I think it’s a bad look. I think it’s heightening the contradictions."

He further remarked that the wedding showcased the stark reality of wealth disparity, asserting that even beloved public figures reveal their billionaire status through such displays. "It’s showcasing once again that, no matter how beloved a public figure you might be, you’re still - if you’re a billionaire, you’re still a billionaire and you are going to do billionaire s--t," he stated.
Piker labeled the MSG wedding as "a flex" and described it as "a little tacky. At best." His comments ignited a heated debate across social media platforms.

Some users sided with Piker, with one stating, "I’m sorry but he’s right. I’m sorry, swifties." Another user expressed outrage over the timing and location of the wedding during a heatwave, calling Swift "so evil."
A third critic argued that weddings impacting local lives should not be permitted. Others expressed mixed feelings, with one user noting the couple's charitable contributions while questioning the need for such grand celebrations.
Defenders of Swift and Kelce quickly emerged. One pointed out that any event in NYC requiring police detail mandates payment from the organizers. Another user suggested that the couple likely reimbursed the city for the police presence.

A third supporter emphasized that it was a private event and that wealthy individuals often spend their money in more questionable ways. "There are billionaires who do worse with their money," they stated.
Prior to their wedding, Swift and Kelce donated $26 million to various charities across the United States. A press release highlighted their contributions to organizations such as City Harvest in New York City and Food Bank For NYC.
Other beneficiaries included Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and several community food networks across multiple states. Their charitable efforts also extended to organizations like ASPCA and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.
