Iran Targets Major Tech Giants as 'Hostile Technology Framework'

Mar 15 2026

Iran has unveiled a list of significant U.S. technology companies operating in the Middle East, designating them as potential targets. This information surfaced through the Iranian news agency Tasnim, which maintains connections to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Included in this list are around 30 sites linked to major players like Amazon, Microsoft, Google, Oracle, NVIDIA, IBM, and Palantir, all labeled as "hostile technology framework."

The timing of this announcement coincides with escalating tensions between Iran and the United States. Tasnim reported that these facilities were chosen due to their involvement in artificial intelligence advancements or their role in managing cloud computing services throughout the region.

Several targeted locations are situated in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and Tel Aviv, Israel, encompassing offices of Amazon and Microsoft, along with NVIDIA's engineering and development center.

Some of these sites have already experienced attacks. Reports indicate that two Amazon data centers in the UAE were hit on March 1, while a third facility in Bahrain sustained damage from debris resulting from another strike. The IRGC stated that these attacks aimed to assess the infrastructure's contribution to supporting "enemy military and intelligence operations."

The list also points to offices of Oracle, IBM, and Google located in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, and Abu Dhabi, claiming they provide technological frameworks associated with military entities.

Notably, several companies on this list have been linked to Project Nimbus, a $1.2 billion cloud computing initiative awarded by the Israeli government to Amazon and Google in 2021. A report from United Nations rapporteur Francesca Albanese in 2025 noted that this project supplies Israel with "core tech infrastructure," granting government agencies extensive access to cloud and AI services from these firms and Microsoft.

Documents obtained by The Intercept last May revealed that Google recognized potential risks tied to the contract prior to its signing. A confidential report from consultants cautioned that the company would have limited insight into how its cloud and machine learning tools could be utilized by Israeli government agencies, including military and intelligence sectors.

Consultants advised against providing advanced machine learning tools to the Israeli military due to possible human rights violations; however, internal documents suggested that Google moved forward with the agreement despite these warnings. The company has previously asserted that Project Nimbus is not designed for "highly sensitive, classified or military workloads relevant to weapons or intelligence services."
