JD Vance's Cringe-Worthy Knee Pat to Pregnant Wife Sparks Internet Fury

Jun 27 2026

JD Vance's bizarre knee pat to his heavily pregnant wife Usha has sent shockwaves through social media, with users tearing into the moment as painfully awkward.

The vice president made a guest appearance on his wife's podcast, Storytime with the Second Lady, where he was supposed to read Winnie the Pooh. Instead, viewers were left cringing at his interaction with Usha.

One account on X, Call to Activism, highlighted the moment, stating, "This painfully awkward JD Vance moment is going viral. After being introduced by his wife, Vance taps her on the knee and says, 'Good to see ya.'”

Commenters wasted no time in roasting the couple. One user quipped, “I have never in my entire life of reluctant heterosexuality had a man slap my knee like that.”

Another chimed in, “You can’t convince me these people know each other’s coffee orders, let alone have been intimate together.”

Critics continued to pile on, with one remarking, “How forced is that! OMG, I’ve seen divorced couples that are more connected than this!”

Another user joked, “Good to see ya? These people do not live together, haha.” The blunt assessment of “Cringe” echoed throughout the comments.

One observer noted, "The whole thing is awkward. Those knee pats were the type a grandparent would give or something, lol,” while another cynic pointed out, “She actually recoils when he touches her.”

Despite the backlash, some viewers defended Vance, claiming his behavior was merely “professional” for the podcast setting aimed at a younger audience.

Body language expert Judi James weighed in, suggesting that the setup contributed to the awkwardness. She stated that any married couple would feel slightly uncomfortable in such a scenario. “She’s not introducing him at the lectern at a conference; they’re sitting opposite each other in a studio and will have arrived together, been mic’d up together and prepped for ages before this filming starts,” she explained.

While many found the exchange cringeworthy, Judi described it as “rather cute,” noting that Usha’s scripted introduction made a relaxed response nearly impossible.

One defender remarked, “It’s called being professional in front of the cameras. You are really grasping for anything now.”

The podcast is available on YouTube, but the comments section has been disabled.

Earlier this week, in the book Regime Change: Inside the Imperial Presidency of Donald Trump by journalists Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan, it was reported that after the fatal shooting of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk, Vance spent several late-night hours online viewing every available angle of the projectile striking Kirk’s throat, causing concern for Usha.

Usha is pregnant with their fourth child, and the baby boy is due in late July.
