“He’s 80. He doesn’t have much to lose.” Joe Rogan’s blunt assessment of President Donald Trump’s age and its implications for global conflict has sparked discussions among listeners of his podcast. The comedian and commentator has been vocal about his disillusionment with Trump, particularly regarding the ongoing war with Iran.
On a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, Rogan elaborated on his concerns, suggesting that Trump’s advanced years might embolden him to make reckless decisions. “Death is imminent — it’s within a decade, if you’re lucky,” he remarked, emphasizing the gravity of having leaders who may not be around to face the consequences of their actions.

The backdrop to Rogan’s comments includes the U.S. military's recent operations, which culminated in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on February 28. Following this event, Mojtaba Khamenei, aged 56, was named the new leader of Iran. Trump assured congressional Republicans in Florida on March 10 that the conflict would be resolved swiftly.
In a video statement after Operation Epic Fury, Trump labeled Iran an “imminent” threat due to its nuclear ambitions and missile development capabilities, which he claimed could endanger American allies and even the homeland.
Despite previously endorsing Trump for the 2024 election and hosting him on his show, Rogan has expressed feelings of betrayal over the president's military actions. “It just seems so insane based on what he ran on,” he told journalist Michael Shellenberger. “He ran on ‘No more wars, end these stupid, senseless wars,’ and then we have one that we can’t even really clearly define why we did it.”

As reported by the Associated Press, the conflict has resulted in at least 1,230 Iranian casualties and the deaths of seven U.S. service members. Rogan’s critique resonates with many who feel disillusioned by the current administration's foreign policy.
Rogan’s podcast remains the most popular in the U.S., according to Spotify metrics. His influence is notable; Trump himself acknowledged that appearing on Rogan's show helped him connect with younger voters during his campaign. During his second inauguration last year, Trump recounted how his son Barron advised him to engage with Rogan to capture the youth vote.
