Kimberly Guilfoyle's McDonald's Opening Sparks Outrage in Greece

May 15 2026

Kimberly Guilfoyle, the U.S. ambassador to Greece, celebrated the grand opening of a new McDonald's in Athens on Thursday, but her excitement fell flat among many locals.

“An exciting day for Greece!” she exclaimed, sharing a photo from the ceremony on Instagram. “It was my honor to participate in the ribbon cutting for a brand new McDonald’s at The Mall in Athens, the most technologically advanced McDonald’s in all of Europe! American businesses investing here create jobs and bring American culture – and delicious food – to the Greek people.”

But not everyone was on board with her enthusiasm.

“How is this exciting for Greece 😂😂😂 it’s a McDonald’s opening in a mall chill lady,” one critic fired back.

“Culture and good food does not equal McDonald's,” another chimed in. “Well maybe in Trumpworld.”

Others defended Greece's rich culinary heritage.

“Nice! but Greeks don’t need help bringing delicious food to the Greek people! They’re pretty good at it and much healthier food!”

One commenter speculated that Guilfoyle, who has ties to Donald Trump Jr. and served as a campaign surrogate, might be using the high-tech fast-food joint as a lure.

“Maybe President Trump will visit sometime,” they suggested.

This McDonald’s boasts a massive 65-square-meter screen and can churn out 1,400 burgers an hour, according to Greek outlet Tovima.com.

Sounds like a perfect fit for Trump’s fast-food cravings.

Guilfoyle last saw Trump in March at a White House reception where he affectionately referred to her as Kimber-lay.
