Kristi Noem's 'Fake Position' Sparks Outrage as She Claims Coalition Stronger than NATO

Kristi Noem’s recent promotion to a diplomatic role has ignited a firestorm of criticism online.

Noem touted the Shield of the Americas during a Newsmax segment, absurdly claiming it could rival NATO in strength. This so-called coalition focuses on migration and is positioned as a regional partnership.

After being named special envoy, Noem declared, “Shield of the Americas is a coalition of countries in the Western Hemisphere that will focus on the same priorities.” She boasted about leveraging her experience from her previous role as Homeland Security Secretary to bolster economies and security in neighboring countries.

Critics quickly pounced on her remarks, pointing out glaring omissions. One user on X slammed the initiative, stating, “What a joke. The Shield of the Americas excludes Canada, Mexico, Colombia, and Brazil -- the most powerful militaries in the Americas outside of the U.S.”

Another user ridiculed her appointment, saying, “Kristi who? She should resign in disgrace from that fake position.”

During her interview, Noem outlined the coalition’s goals, which include border security and migration management. She claimed, “I will be advising them and working with them on border security, on what they need to do to stop illegal immigration and mass migration.”

Noem also made a ludicrous comparison to NATO after being prompted by the host. “It is, but I think it’s going to be stronger than NATO because it is bringing these countries into alignment with American values and American freedom,” she asserted.

She stated that 13 countries are already part of this coalition and expressed hopes for expansion. “So far we have 13 countries signed into the Shield of the Americas,” she said. “Our goal is to grow that number to perpetuate this kind of value system and policies and economic development throughout the hemisphere.”

The White House has indicated that this initiative aims to secure the Western Hemisphere, addressing immigration, trafficking, and regional counterterrorism cooperation.

Noem was stripped of her Security Secretary title earlier this year.
