Kristi Noem's Reaction to Affair Allegations Sparks Controversy
During a House Judiciary Committee hearing on Wednesday, Kristi Noem found herself in the hot seat as Rep. Sydney Kamlager-Dove directly confronted her about longstanding rumors of an affair with Corey Lewandowski, a senior aide at the Department of Homeland Security.
For years, speculation has swirled around Noem and Lewandowski, both of whom are married to other people. Despite their denials since 2021, recent reports have intensified scrutiny, particularly after revelations that they were seen traveling together on a private jet.
When Kamlager-Dove posed the blunt question—“So, Secretary Noem, at any time during your tenure, as director of Department of Homeland Security, have you had sexual relations with Corey Lewandowski?”—Noem’s reaction was one of surprise.
Instead of addressing the inquiry directly, Noem turned her attention to Rep. Jim Jordan, expressing disbelief at the nature of the question. “Mr. Chairman, I am shocked we’re going down and peddling tabloid garbage in this committee today,” she stated, before attempting to clarify Lewandowski's role as a special government employee without decision-making authority.
Kamlager-Dove did not back down, asserting that Noem should be able to respond clearly to such inquiries. “That should be the easiest question—you should be wanting to answer that question,” she insisted, emphasizing the importance of transparency in leadership.
Noem dismissed the allegations as “absolute garbage,” while Kamlager-Dove pressed on, highlighting the implications for national security and the responsibilities of leadership. “It is about conflict of interest. It is about national security risk,” she reiterated.
The tension escalated as Kamlager-Dove questioned why Lewandowski appeared to hold significant influence within DHS. “Why then, is the question, have you made Corey Lewandowski your de facto chief of staff, who possesses an unchecked level of power at DHS?” she asked pointedly.
Despite the mounting pressure, Noem did not provide a direct answer regarding the affair allegations. Instead, she maintained her stance against the rumors throughout the exchange. Meanwhile, Kamlager-Dove attempted to enter headlines related to the affair into the official record, which Jordan objected to each time.
Notably, Noem’s husband was present behind her during this contentious hearing. In a subsequent interaction with Rep. Jared Moskowitz, Noem reiterated her denial: “This has been something that I’ve refuted for years and I continue to do that.”
