Love on Stage: Newlyweds Reeve Carney and Eva Noblezada Bring Gatsby to Life

May 02 2026

Newlyweds Reeve Carney and Eva Noblezada are set to ignite Broadway as Jay and Daisy in “The Great Gatsby,” but their love story is anything but scripted.

Flashback to 2017, when they first crossed paths at a reading for the Tony-winning musical “Hadestown.” Noblezada, then unsure of herself, thought the idea of them as lovers was laughable. “He’s so handsome. I just wasn’t confident the way that I am now. You guys want us to play lovers? That’s hilarious,” she quipped.

Carney, 43, had his own doubts. “Funnily enough, I didn’t think Eva liked me. And she didn’t think that I liked her,” he recalled, revealing the awkward tension that marked their initial interactions.

Noblezada, now 30, admitted to being nervous around him. “I thought he was super cool and smelled good,” she confessed, hinting at the chemistry that would eventually blossom.

Despite sharing the stage in “Hadestown” and locking lips during performances, both were committed to other partners at the time. “We had partners then. Any chemistry read should be approached with respect for everyone involved,” Noblezada explained, emphasizing their professionalism.

“It wasn’t like that at all in the beginning. We genuinely became best friends,” Carney added, reflecting on their evolving relationship. “It was chemistry in that sense where we just really get along.”

Fast forward to March 2018, when they reunited in London for a workshop of “Hadestown.” By 2019, both were single—Noblezada divorced and Carney split from actress Victoria Justice—allowing their friendship to take a romantic turn.

They tied the knot in October 2025, and now “Gatsby” marks their fifth collaboration after three runs of “Hadestown” and one of “Cabaret.”

Noblezada originated the role of Daisy when the show opened at the Broadway Theatre in 2024. After a brief departure, she returned in March, with Carney joining shortly after.

Fans are thrilled to witness their journey unfold. “What I love hearing is like, ‘Oh my gosh, we saw you guys in ‘Hadestown’ and then we saw you in ‘Cabaret.’ It’s really special,” Noblezada gushed about meeting followers at the stage door.

Performing eight shows a week is no small feat. Noblezada arrives early for hair and makeup while Carney preps in a separate dressing room. They prefer to keep their encounters until they’re on stage together, adding an element of surprise to their performances.

As for future roles, they have their eyes set on a legendary duo from “Jesus Christ Superstar.” “Jesus and Mary Magdalene,” Carney declared with enthusiasm. “Oh yeah, that would be fun,” Noblezada agreed, already dreaming of their next theatrical adventure.
