Megyn Kelly, once a Trump ally, labels the president as ‘naive’

Apr 09 2026

Right-wing podcast host Megyn Kelly, who dedicated months to campaigning for Donald Trump during the 2024 presidential race, has now labeled the president as “too naive to discern the fabrications” surrounding Iran.

“What prompted Trump, at 79 years old, to occupy that situation room alongside Bibi Netanyahu?” she expressed in an interview with British commentator Piers Morgan on Wednesday. “What made him accept everything that guy was selling without question when every other president managed to see through that deception?”

Kelly, a former Fox News anchor, elaborated: “I can’t fathom why he was too feeble to refuse… He was too naive to recognize the lies. Ultimately, he allowed himself to be drawn into this absurd conflict.”

The joint military operations between the U.S. and Israel commenced on February 28 and have now progressed into their second month, currently observing a tenuous two-week ceasefire.

Despite her previous backing of Trump, Kelly appears to have shifted her stance regarding his tactics and threats in the Middle East.

On Tuesday, Trump issued a dire warning on social media stating that "A whole civilization will perish tonight, never to return,” if his demands for Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz were not met. “I don’t wish for that outcome, but it’s likely,” he added before retracting his statement.

This post ignited backlash across the political spectrum, including from staunch MAGA supporters like former congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, and Kelly herself.

“I’m fed up with this nonsense. Can’t Trump just act like a normal person?” she remarked on The Megyn Kelly Show in response. “This is about threatening to annihilate innocent civilians casually in a social media post. It’s utterly irresponsible and revolting.”

These comments starkly contrasted with her statements just a day earlier, where she told a guest on her show: "Trump could launch a nuclear strike and I’d still vote Republican over Democrat.”

The Independent has reached out to Kelly’s representatives for further comment.

In the final days of the 2024 presidential campaign, Kelly shared the stage with Trump in Pennsylvania, urging attendees to vote for him – dubbing him a “protector of women,” despite previously challenging his alleged misogynistic views during the 2016 campaign.

"I prefer a president who knows how to be strong and fight. I hope all of you do what I did last week. Vote Trump and get ten friends to vote Trump,” Kelly stated at the Pennsylvania event.

These remarks followed her critical assessment of a Trump rally held at Madison Square Garden in New York just a week prior, where she described it as “bro-tastic.”
