Megyn Kelly Slams Trump Over Dismal Polling: ‘You’re in Trouble’

Apr 25 2026

Megyn Kelly has unleashed a scathing critique of President Donald Trump and the Republican Party, delivering a stark warning: “You’re in trouble.”

The conservative commentator, who commands a following of over four million on YouTube, dissected recent polling results that reveal significant challenges for the GOP as the midterm elections approach, highlighting both domestic and international issues.

“Americans feel like they gave Trump a year-and-a-half,” she stated during her Thursday podcast episode. “He’s done nothing but exacerbate problems… They’re not fans of the tariffs… They’re unhappy with the war. Their bank accounts are suffering.”

Kelly, previously a host at Fox News, referenced a striking poll from her former employer indicating that 52 percent of registered voters now favor Democrats regarding economic issues, compared to 48 percent for Republicans.

“For the first time since 2010, Americans prefer Democrats on the economy,” Kelly exclaimed, emphasizing that this marks a significant shift after 16 years of Republican dominance on such issues.

In contrast, Trump’s economic approval ratings were dismal: 66 percent of respondents expressed disapproval. Additionally, 63 percent disapproved of his approach to Iran, while a staggering 72 percent criticized his handling of inflation.

Kelly also highlighted a new analysis from the Cook Political Report, which shows Democrats leading Republicans by six points in competitive congressional districts—areas Trump had won by an average of two points in 2024.

“Trump has cratered… it’s not even present tense anymore. It’s over! You’re in trouble!” she declared. “You need to make some changes ASAP.”

“It’s crucial to address this now, with several months left before the midterms; perhaps something can be salvaged,” she added.

Although Kelly endorsed Trump for the 2024 election, she has not shied away from criticism—particularly regarding the Iran conflict, which she accused him of being “bamboozled” into initiating. Earlier this week, she labeled the 79-year-old president as amoral and “extremely petty and thin-skinned.”

In response, Trump recently called Kelly a "low IQ person," targeting her and other right-wing influencers who have turned critical of his administration.

However, Kelly is not alone in cautioning Republicans about a potential midterm disaster.

On Friday, Axios co-founder Jim VandeHei remarked that Trump’s polling figures likely foreshadow difficulties ahead.

“It’s nearly impossible in modern polling to get much lower than he is in terms of unfavorable ratings, especially regarding economic popularity,” he noted during an MS NOW segment.

The latest polling data emerges as tensions in the Middle East remain under a fragile ceasefire. The Strait of Hormuz—a crucial global trade route—continues to be largely blocked due to U.S. and Iranian actions. Consequently, fuel prices have surged; on Friday, the national average for a gallon of gasoline reached $4.05, up from $2.98 just two days before the conflict escalated, according to AAA.

On Thursday, Trump told reporters he feels “no pressure whatsoever” to conclude the Iran war and warned that Americans should brace for high gas prices “for a little while.”
