Melania Trump is poised to make a notable appearance on Capitol Hill, just days after she made headlines with a press conference where she categorically denied any connections to Jeffrey Epstein.
On Wednesday, she will participate in a roundtable discussion with House lawmakers advocating for updates to a nearly three-decade-old foster care program aimed at expanding access to essential services.
Since the conclusion of President Donald Trump's first term in 2021, Melania has focused her efforts on issues surrounding foster care.
This visit follows her previous lobbying success last year, which resulted in Congress passing legislation aimed at safeguarding women and children from online sexual exploitation.
Her appearance comes on the heels of a surprising statement made at the White House, where she firmly rejected any association with Epstein and called for Congress to hold hearings for his victims. “Enough with the lies,” she stated, emphasizing her desire to distance herself from the late financier and convicted sex offender.
In a social media post, she expressed eagerness to collaborate with Congress to “advance new legislation designed to protect and empower individuals from the foster care community,” highlighting a shared mission to "strengthen America’s next generation.”
During her visit, she will meet with members of the House Ways and Means Committee, alongside individuals who have experienced foster care.
Bipartisan committee members have introduced several bills aimed at modernizing the Chafee foster care program, which seeks to enhance outcomes for young adults transitioning out of the system. These proposals aim to improve access to housing, education, and workforce training programs, facilitating a smoother transition into adulthood.
The Chafee program currently supports youth aged 14 to 21 as they exit the foster care system. The committee noted that these bipartisan initiatives represent the most significant update since the program's inception in 1999.
A report from the Government Accountability Office released in January 2025 revealed that states were returning millions in unused Chafee funds to the federal government, despite ongoing unmet needs among foster youth.
In November, President Trump established the “Fostering the Future” program through executive order, aiming for collaboration among federal entities, nonprofits, educational institutions, and the private sector to enhance career and educational opportunities for children in foster care.
Melania, who was present during the signing of this executive order in the Oval Office, also leads a broader “Fostering the Future” initiative as part of her “Be Best” campaign launched during her husband’s first presidential term. This initiative provides scholarships for current and former foster youth.
Last month, she convened a summit with representatives from over 40 countries, urging collective efforts to improve educational access and technology for children globally.
In March 2025, Melania made her first public appearance after resuming her role as First Lady by participating in a Capitol Hill roundtable discussion regarding the Take It Down Act. This legislation was signed into law by President Trump two months later, criminalizing the publication or threat of publishing intimate images without consent.
Recently, both Melania Trump and the White House highlighted the first conviction under this new law after an Ohio man pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to cybercrimes involving real and AI-generated explicit images and threats against multiple victims.
