Mum's Nightmare Boob Job Left Her Nipple Black and Dating Life in Ruins

A mother’s quest for bikini confidence spiraled into a nightmare after a breast augmentation left her with a blackened nipple and a shattered dating life. Tara Thompson, 55, a fishing boat captain from Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, dropped a staggering $11,000 (£8,700) on what she thought would be a confidence-boosting breast lift and augmentation in 2020.

After raising two kids, Tara aimed to tackle her “biggest insecurity” by upgrading her 36C chest to a fuller 36D. But what began as a dream makeover quickly morphed into a living hell.

Just months post-surgery, complications erupted. Tara faced agonizing infections, a detached muscle, and the horrifying reality of necrosis—where her body’s flesh began to die. “I was beyond botched,” she declared, recounting the moment her left breast turned rock hard in February 2021.

Doctors discovered a gruesome build-up of dried blood, leading to multiple surgeries. The nightmare escalated when necrosis set in, turning her nipple black. “I was shocked. I was very sick at this stage. I couldn’t eat,” she recalled, detailing the grim aftermath of her third surgery.

Tests revealed a life-threatening situation: “He told me I needed to be on the next flight out or I was going to die. I was riddled with infection,” Tara said, describing the moment she learned she had contracted three infectious diseases.

Even after the infections cleared and the implant was replaced, the results were devastating. The new implant sat awkwardly near her collarbone, causing skin dimpling and excruciating back pain. “I couldn’t even brush my own hair,” she lamented, revealing that her pectoral muscle had detached from her sternum.

“I was in so much pain that my crew had to help me off the boat just to lay down and stop the spasms,” she added, explaining how she plummeted from 140lbs to 111lbs during this ordeal. “My entire world was just blowing up. I was in daily pain. I was just surviving, not functioning.”

In 2024, Tara made the gut-wrenching decision to have both implants removed for good. Yet the emotional scars linger, leaving her terrified of intimacy. “I’m single. I haven’t reached that point where mentally I can let somebody see me without a top on. It’s put me off dating,” she confessed. “I think I’ve been beyond botched.”

Now on a mission to warn others about the perils of cosmetic surgery, Tara urges potential patients to do their homework: “Make sure you do extensive research before going into surgery.” She still grapples with physical pain and has lost about two-thirds of her previous strength. “I’ll never get implants again,” she vowed, determined to share her cautionary tale with anyone considering similar procedures.
