Newark Mayor Launches Legal Assault to Shut Down Delaney Hall Amid Violent Protests
The mayor of Newark is set to file a lawsuit demanding the closure of the Delaney Hall immigration detention center, following ten days of violent confrontations between leftist protesters and law enforcement.
Ras Baraka, age 56, is targeting the GEO Group, the operator of the 1,000-bed facility in New Jersey, citing health and safety concerns as the basis for his legal action.
“It takes all of us to stand against the injustices of the GEO group and ICE and the plight of innocent people incarcerated at Delaney Hall,” Baraka declared, making his stance clear.

His lawsuit announcement comes on the heels of an overnight curfew imposed on protesters, restricting gatherings from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Despite this curfew, anti-ICE demonstrators persisted in their protests outside the facility, with some verbally attacking a Newark councilwoman who urged for calm.
“Thank you for protesting. We thank you for coming down here,” the lawmaker stated before being interrupted by a hostile crowd.
“F–k your thanks, go do something!” one protester yelled, pulling down her mask to make her point.

In a strange turn of events, the lawmaker joined hands with an officer to pray amidst the chaos.
“Whatever you want to do, do it. God got this whether you like it or not,” she shouted over the noise.
During this confrontation, she was labeled a “fascist mouthpiece” by protesters in a video that circulated online.

Chants of “F–k ICE” and “f–k the police” echoed through the crowd, as captured by witness John Paredes.
At least 61 arrests occurred on Monday night alone, with reports indicating that some anti-ICE activists were transported in to incite disorder.
Over the weekend, masked protesters breached barriers set up by state police in designated protest zones, throwing projectiles and igniting tires in the street.
“These actions put both peaceful protestors and law enforcement in danger,” stated New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherill.

Protesters have maintained a presence outside Delaney Hall for over a week, voicing their outrage over conditions faced by detainees.
The Department of Homeland Security has dismissed these allegations outright.
“REMINDER: there is NO HUNGER STRIKE at Delaney Hall. There are no subprime conditions,” the agency asserted.

“ALL detainees are provided with 3 meals a day, clean water, clothing, bedding, showers, soap, toiletries, and opportunities to communicate with their family members and lawyers.”
“Aliens are also provided comprehensive healthcare — For many illegal aliens this is the BEST healthcare they have received their entire lives.”
Border czar Tom Homan claimed he made a “surprise visit” to the center this weekend and “ate the same meal” served to detainees.
