Pam Bondi Dismissed as Attorney General Following Epstein Missteps

Apr 02 2026

Pam Bondi's time as Attorney General has come to an abrupt end, following a series of missteps related to the Jeffrey Epstein case. President Donald Trump announced her departure on his Truth Social platform, stating, “Pam Bondi is a Great American Patriot and a loyal friend, who faithfully served as my Attorney General over the past year.”

Despite the praise, reports indicate that Bondi's handling of Epstein-related documents frustrated Trump, who has previously expressed dissatisfaction with her approach to prosecuting political adversaries. “We love Pam, and she will be transitioning to a much needed and important new job in the private sector, to be announced at a date in the near future,” Trump added, hinting at her next steps.

In the wake of Bondi's exit, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche will step in as acting attorney general. Her tenure was marked by unwavering loyalty to Trump, particularly in her defense of the Department of Justice’s lack of transparency regarding Epstein’s files. Critics have noted that this loyalty may have come at the expense of accountability.

As rumors of her dismissal circulated, Bondi faced increasing pressure from within Congress. Notably, five Republican members of the House Oversight Committee sided with Democrats to vote for a subpoena compelling her to testify about the Epstein files. This shift in support highlighted her waning influence among GOP lawmakers.

Trump has yet to announce a permanent replacement for Bondi, although speculation includes Lee Zeldin, a former congressman from New York currently serving as the Environmental Protection Agency administrator. The uncertainty surrounding her successor adds another layer to the ongoing political drama.

Democratic leaders have welcomed Bondi's departure with open arms. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer remarked, “Good riddance,” while also cautioning that the issues within the Department of Justice are deeply rooted in Trump’s leadership.

Rep. Robert Garcia, a key figure in the House Oversight Committee, reiterated that Bondi remains legally obligated to testify under oath. “Attorney General Pam Bondi has been leading a White House cover-up of the Epstein files,” he stated. “She has weaponized the Department of Justice to protect Donald Trump and put survivors in harm’s way by exposing their identities.” Garcia emphasized that accountability is essential and that Bondi will not evade her responsibilities.
