Rock Legend Joe Murphy Dead at 46 After Tragic Car Crash
A young musician has died at the age of just 46. Joe Murphy, the chart-topping bassist of rock group Koopa, passed away, confirmed by his sister on social media. She expressed her heartbreak, stating, "For those who knew him, it breaks my heart to say that my big brother, Joe Murphy has passed away. Love you big bro."
Koopa made history in 2007 as the first band to break into the UK Top 40 solely through digital downloads. They also became the first unsigned act to achieve a charting single. From 2004 to 2007, they performed extensively across the UK and released two singles via Mad Cow Records, including "No Trend," which peaked at No. 71 on the UK Singles Chart.

The band released "Stand Up 4 England," a World Cup-themed track featured on the 2006 re-release of England (The Album). Their single "Blag, Steal & Borrow" entered the charts at number 31 in 2007. That same year, Koopa supported acts at the Isle of Wight Festival.
In June 2021, Joe was involved in a devastating car crash after suffering a cardiac arrest while driving. The incident occurred on Mersea Road in Colchester. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition and spent an extended period in intensive care.

Tributes have flooded social media following his death. The Essex band The Broken Johnny's expressed their sorrow, stating, "Absolutely gutted to hear of the passing of local legend Joe Murphy from the band Koopa." They reminisced about seeing Koopa perform before they gained fame in America.
Essex Rocks Creative CIC shared their condolences, noting, "Joe and his band Koopa were a massive part of our formative years as promoters in the mid-2000s and we feel privileged to have known him on a personal level and worked with him as a musician. Keep playing those riffs Joe. We love you."
Joe Murphy was a key figure in the music scene during his time with Koopa, leaving behind a legacy that resonated with fans and fellow musicians alike.
