Shocking Footage Reveals ‘Lilo & Stitch’ Star Daveigh Chase’s Descent into Homelessness Before Death

Jun 18 2026

Months before her death, Daveigh Chase was spotted in a harrowing state on the streets of Downtown Los Angeles, as revealed by shocking video footage.

The clip shows the “Lilo & Stitch” actress emaciated and barely conscious, lying on the floor of a tent or trailer in the infamous Skid Row area.

Chase's longtime manager, John Ryan, had been searching for her alongside her stepsister Gaia Brown, employing a private investigator for months before they discovered the video in late 2025.

Ryan managed to speak with Chase over the phone, hoping to rescue her for treatment, but by the time he arrived at Skid Row, she had vanished once again.

Plans were in place for Chase to recover in LA before being sent to a rehab facility in Costa Rica owned by a friend of Ryan's.

“We were so close to finding her,” Ryan stated. “Daveigh was the sweetest and brightest light in Hollywood. I can’t believe this is real. Her legacy and work will live on forever.”

In the days leading up to her death, a GoFundMe campaign was launched by her boyfriend Roy Hernandez, aiming to provide Chase with “comfort and peace” during her final moments.

“Daveigh Chase, my girlfriend, has always been a light in my life. Many people know her as a talented childhood actor from ‘Lilo & Stitch,’ ‘Spirited Away,’ and ‘Donnie Darko.’ But behind the scenes, she’s faced more than her share of hardship,” the campaign stated.

The narrative continued, detailing her difficult childhood and struggles with bullying, which left her seeking safety and happiness in downtown LA. Hernandez claimed he promised to protect her and provide the love she deserved.

However, Ryan accused Hernandez of being an imposter, allegedly scamming for money.

“Apparently, a man claiming to be her ‘boyfriend’ that none of us friends or her family has heard of has set up a GoFundMe on ‘her and her families behalf’ that he set her up as the organizer. I can confirm Daveigh has a trust account set up at SAG to cover all costs,” he asserted.

Chase reportedly earned “millions” in residuals from her childhood acting career, but Ryan claimed she was “too far gone” on heroin and fentanyl to collect any of it.

With Chase deceased and unable to claim her funds, they would be transferred to her next of kin—her father, according to Ryan.

Chase passed away on June 16 after being diagnosed with meningitis and a blood infection that led to septic shock and ultimately caused her body to shut down. She was 35 years old.

Reports indicated that the “Donnie Darko” actress had been hospitalized earlier that month due to malnutrition.
