Tom Homan Challenges Catholic Leaders to Embrace His Immigration Insights

In a pointed exchange this week, Tom Homan, former border czar under President Trump, directed a critical message toward the Vatican following Pope Leo XIV's remarks on the Iran war and immigration policies.

During a Tuesday interview with Newsmax, Homan expressed his discontent with the Catholic Church's involvement in political matters, suggesting that faith leaders could benefit from his insights. “I’m disappointed,” he stated, emphasizing his lifelong commitment to the Catholic faith. “They should focus on their own issues instead of weighing in on politics.”

“I wish they would sit down and let me educate them on open borders,” Homan asserted. He highlighted the significant reduction in illegal immigration under Trump’s administration, questioning the implications of such policies on crime and safety. “When illegal immigration is down 97%, think about how many women aren’t being victimized by cartels or how many children aren’t dying on that perilous journey.”

His comments came in response to a recent “60 Minutes” segment featuring prominent Catholic cardinals who criticized U.S. military actions alongside Israel. Cardinal Joseph Tobin of New Jersey notably labeled ICE as a “lawless organization” after tragic incidents involving ICE officers.

Homan countered the cardinals' perspectives, suggesting they lacked a comprehensive understanding of the complexities surrounding illegal immigration. “They’re speaking from a position of ignorance regarding what truly happens behind the scenes,” he remarked, reiterating his disappointment with their stance.

Trump's recent criticisms of Pope Leo XIV have stirred controversy among Catholics, with the president labeling the pontiff as “WEAK on Crime” in a Truth Social post. In a subsequent NBC News interview, Trump expressed his disfavor towards the pope, questioning his effectiveness as the first U.S.-born pontiff.

On the same day, Trump shared an AI-generated image resembling Jesus Christ on Truth Social, which faced backlash from various political figures for its perceived blasphemy, leading to its quiet removal by his team.

Pope Leo XIV has remained steadfast in his opposition to war, asserting his commitment to vocalize his beliefs without fear of the Trump administration.
