Top Republican Rips Americans for Not Adoring USA Like World Cup Fans
House Speaker Mike Johnson slammed Democrats, claiming they show less love for the United States than World Cup fans, demanding, “Don’t forget your blessings.”
The Louisiana Republican unleashed his comments during a press conference, reacting to left-wing victories in New York. Three candidates backed by Mayor Zohran Mamdani triumphed in House primary races, including two democratic socialists.
Johnson aimed to highlight the contrast between ungrateful blue state politicians and foreign soccer fans, who he insisted are savoring the “taste of freedom.”

“Right now, we’re triumphantly hosting the World Cup games all around the country, and we’re seeing people from different countries come and get a little taste of America, a little taste of freedom, of our culture, our society, and they appreciate it so much more than these socialists running for Congress,” he declared.
“Fans across the country are truly enjoying our world-class facilities and incredible atmosphere on the field and off the field,” he added. “Thanks to social media we’re seeing a lot of these.”
Johnson rattled off headlines about Dutch travelers amazed by Buc-ee’s, German players visiting Waffle House, and English fans exploring the Florida Everglades.
Since the tournament kicked off this month, social media has exploded with international visitors praising the U.S. One Englishman stated, “We owe apologies to America because their football stadiums are so much better than ours,” in a video from the England-Croatia match in Dallas.

A Scottish woman who traveled to Boston for the games expressed her surprise: “We were apprehensive about coming. We were expecting to be met by ICE, you know the political climate we all see on the news, and that could not be further from the truth of what we’ve actually experienced.”
Other tourists have gone viral for embracing American staples like ranch dressing and the hit song “Country Roads.” However, not all feedback has been glowing; many visitors complained about skyrocketing ticket prices.
During the press conference, Johnson noted: “The visitors appreciate what we have” — stressing the word visitors.
He pointed out that many foreign fans “grew up under repressive state-controlled economies,” have “never known freedom,” and are “seeing for themselves the genius of the American system.”

Meanwhile, he accused “rising socialist, Marxist democrat candidates” of attempting to dismantle that very system.
Johnson expanded his critique beyond left-wing politicians to Democratic voters at large, claiming they lack “zeal” for America.
He referenced a new NBC News poll revealing that only a small fraction of Democratic voters express pride in being American.
In another part of the press conference, Johnson voiced support for the SAVE Act, which mandates proof of citizenship for new voters. He argued that birthright citizenship — which President Trump aims to overturn — “can be abused.” He also stated that the U.S. economy, hindered by the Iran war, “is going to take off like a rocket.”
