Trump Admits Macron Exploited His ‘Weakness’ to Secure G7 Attendance
President Donald Trump openly acknowledged that French President Emmanuel Macron exploited his “weakness” for Versailles to secure his attendance at the Group of Seven summit.
World leaders convened for a three-day international forum in Evian-les-Bains, France, where they tackled pressing global issues, including Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the ongoing conflict in Iran.

In an interview with Axios’ Marc Caputo, Trump praised Macron’s hosting skills at the G7, revealing that the French leader extended an invitation just a week prior to the summit.
“He said, ‘Would you do me a favor? Would you come in to Paris? We'd like to honor you,’” Trump recounted.
“I view it as honoring the nation. But he said, ‘I'd like to honor you.’ And he had the biggest people in Europe there and beyond,” Trump elaborated.

Trump admitted, “I was sort of not going to do it, but he knew my weakness because I like Versailles, it's one of the great places.”
Following the summit's conclusion on Wednesday, Trump attended an extravagant dinner at the Palace of Versailles, celebrating America’s 250th birthday at the historic site where the 1783 Treaty of Paris was signed, recognizing U.S. independence.
“It's not something they do. I understand. They don't do that. They don't do dinners at Versailles. And we had a fantastic dinner,” Trump stated.
During this lavish dinner, Trump unexpectedly signed an interim peace deal with Iran aimed at ceasing hostilities in the region. This agreement reopened the Strait of Hormuz and lifted the U.S. naval blockade of Iranian ports while both nations work towards a permanent resolution.
“This agreement paves the way for lasting peace and allows the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz,” Macron announced on social media. “It is an important step in the right direction for our compatriots that will soon enable a decrease in energy prices.”
The cost of fuel skyrocketed as Iran effectively shut down this crucial oil passage after U.S. and Israeli strikes began against the country in late February.

The average price of a gallon of regular gas in the U.S. has fallen from over $4.50 to $3.93, according to AAA motor club data. However, this figure remains significantly elevated compared to pre-war levels when gas averaged $2.98, as reported by the Associated Press.
During a disjointed speech at the G7 summit, Trump attempted to rationalize the expensive war, asserting he “got everything” he wanted.
“On Sunday, we reached an agreement with Iran that achieves everything we set out to accomplish, everything and much more, ending the current conflict, reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and preventing Iran from ever obtaining a nuclear weapon, that’s what it was all about,” Trump declared.
