Trump Advocates for Third Term as 'Incentive' in Erratic Social Media Post

Mar 22 2026

On Sunday, Donald Trump made headlines by asserting that he is deserving of a third presidential term, framing it as a “reward.”

In a post on Truth Social, he shared an image featuring himself with the provocative caption, “3RD TERM FOR TRUMP AS A REWARD FROM STOLEN ELECTION.” This image echoes his persistent, unfounded allegations regarding the 2020 election results, which have fueled the fervor of his supporters, notably during the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot.

This latest social media outburst is not an isolated incident; it reflects Trump’s ongoing flirtation with the idea of a third term, despite the constitutional barrier imposed by the 22nd Amendment. Nevertheless, this has not deterred him from marketing “Trump 2028” merchandise or discussing aspirations for additional terms.

Since at least 2018, Trump has hinted at the notion of being a “president for life.” In a conversation with NBC News last year, he insisted he was “not joking” about pursuing a third term.

“A lot of people want me to do it,” Trump remarked to NBC News in March 2025. “But, I mean, I basically tell them we have a long way to go, you know, it’s very early in the administration.”

In the same month, his ally Steve Bannon expressed confidence in Trump’s potential return. “I’m a firm believer that President Trump will run and win again in 2028,” Bannon stated during an interview with NewsNation. “We’ve had greater long shots than Trump 2028.”

Just last month, Trump declared that he felt “entitled” to a third term. However, recent reports indicate that his approval rating hovers around 41%, according to The New York Times.
