Trump's 'Threesome' Quip Sparks Outrage and Disbelief

Jul 02 2026

President Donald Trump dropped a jaw-dropping word during a speech: Threesome. This came as he joked about awarding the Congressional Medal of Honor to himself and his sons, Don Jr. and Eric.

“I’m going to give one to myself, one to them, and we’ll have a threesome, OK?” he quipped. “I’ll give them the Congressional Medal of Honor for something ― for their genius at hunting ― and I’ll get one for taking on Russia, Russia, Russia or something.”

The Medal of Honor stands as the highest military accolade in the United States, reserved for those who “distinguish themselves conspicuously by gallantry and intrepidity, risking loss of life above and beyond the call of duty.”

Neither Trump nor his sons have served in the military. Trump dodged service during the Vietnam War, racking up five deferments: four for college and one for bone spurs in his heels.

This bizarre comment emerged during the dedication of the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library in North Dakota. Trump referenced the 26th president and his son, Theodore Roosevelt Jr., as one of only two father-son pairs to receive the Medal of Honor.

He proposed that he and his sons could become the first “threesome” to achieve this honor.

“No, I’m only kidding,” he added. “But I have seriously thought about, now this is dangerous to say, because the fake news is up there all over the place and when I joke I always learned early on, don’t be sarcastic in politics.”

Trump acknowledged he was “doing it with a chuckle” but warned that it was “very dangerous to say” due to potential media backlash.

Despite the joking tone, Trump has previously expressed interest in bestowing the honor upon himself, which has drawn ire given his history of avoiding military service.

In this instance, however, it was the single word 'threesome' that sent shockwaves through critics and audiences alike.
