Trump's War Crime Threats Resurface Ahead of Iran Peace Negotiations — His Aide Offers a Unique Perspective
During a Sunday morning interview on Fox News, Energy Secretary Chris Wright characterized President Donald Trump as a “creative negotiator” in light of his recent threats to “knock out every single” power plant and bridge in Iran.
As the United States and Iran grapple with stalled peace talks amidst a fragile ceasefire and ongoing disputes over the Strait of Hormuz, Trump took to Truth Social, demanding Iran accept U.S. terms or face severe consequences.
“NO MORE MR. NICE GUY!” Trump proclaimed, asserting that the U.S. diplomatic offer was “very fair and reasonable.”
When asked if such intimidation tactics might complicate negotiations, Wright expressed unwavering confidence in Trump’s approach during his appearance on “Fox News Sunday.”
“The president is using every way he can to get leverage over the regime and bring this conflict to an end,” he stated to host Shannon Bream. “He’s a creative negotiator; he uses pressure in different ways.”
Wright elaborated on Trump’s strategy, suggesting that uncertainty has historically yielded positive outcomes over the past 16 months. “I don’t think we’ll see any surprises here,” he added.
He envisioned a resolution that would not only alleviate the threat of a nuclear-armed Iran but also protect neighboring countries from “constant terror” while ensuring a free “flow of goods” through the vital Strait of Hormuz.
“Imagine a nuclear-armed Iran, not far away from that reality,” Wright warned. “This is going to put an end to it.”
In a separate interview on CNN, Wright reaffirmed his support for Trump’s aggressive tactics when questioned by host Jake Tapper about the potential for strikes on civilian infrastructure to be classified as war crimes.
“The president is looking for maximum leverage,” he asserted, dismissing concerns with a firm, “No, I’m not worried about that.”
Earlier this month, Trump had already stirred international alarm with a similar ultimatum, demanding Iran “open the fuckin’ Strait” of Hormuz within two days or face dire consequences via Truth Social.
Just hours before his April 7 deadline, he escalated tensions further with a post warning that “a whole civilization will die tonight,” leading to the announcement of a two-week ceasefire shortly thereafter.
