Trump Shrugs Off Skyrocketing Gas Prices as 'Peanuts' During Ballroom Tour
Donald Trump took center stage at a press conference Tuesday, and if you thought he’d show some empathy for the average American struggling with skyrocketing gas prices, think again.
When a reporter pressed him on any plans to tackle the surging fuel costs linked to the ongoing conflict with Iran, Trump casually replied, “there may be,” before veering off into a nostalgic rant about how glorious things were before America had to “take a little journey” with Iran.
“I had gas down to $1.85 in Iowa. I was in Iowa, and the stations had it at $1.85. But I was down to, in many cases, less than two dollars a gallon,” he boasted, seemingly oblivious to the current reality.
He did acknowledge the rising prices but with a nonchalant attitude. “You want to see the world exploded? You want to see a problem? And this is peanuts,” he declared, as if dismissing the financial strain on millions of Americans.
“I appreciate everybody putting up with it for a little while,” Trump continued, promising that “it won’t be much longer ... And frankly, there is so much oil out there. One of the things is these big ships are coming up to Texas, Louisiana and Alaska, and they are loading up.”
But then came the kicker: he admitted he doesn’t really care about gas prices. “But I don’t even think about that. What I think about is you cannot let Iran have a nuclear weapon,” he stated, prioritizing geopolitical concerns over domestic economic woes.
Back in March, he brushed off worries about a potential war that could devastate the economy, claiming “it’s short-term.” Just last week, he bluntly confessed, “I don’t think about Americans’ financial situation. I don’t think about anybody. I think about one thing: We cannot let Iran have a nuclear weapon.”
Unsurprisingly, his flippant “this is peanuts” comment ignited a firestorm on social media.
"Peanuts" isn't how my constituents would describe the spiking gas prices that make everyday life more expensive.@POTUS isn't paying for this war. Middle class Americans are, and he couldn't care less. https://t.co/JLEj4yzy7V
@GOP's political messaging operation decided to put a sundowning convicted felon in front of the part of the White House he destroyed to tell people their economic troubles are "peanuts." https://t.co/eaSuweCyUo
