Usha Vance Reveals Policy Clashes with VP Husband Amid Trump Administration Choices

Mar 31 2026

Usha Vance, the second lady, openly acknowledges that her support for Vice President JD Vance does not equate to agreement on every policy decision. “I’m not his staffer. I’m not involved in this in any professional sense. … There’s no expectation that we are going to see eye to eye on everything,” she stated in a recent interview.

In her candid remarks, she emphasized the importance of dialogue, saying, “The expectation is that we are going to be open-minded and have a conversation, and that I’ll provide meaningful input from, you know, the perspective of someone who loves him and wants him to succeed.” This approach, she believes, fosters productivity even amidst disagreements.

Vance elaborated on their frequent discussions about various issues, noting her desire to stay informed about his priorities and concerns. “It’s a marriage,” she remarked, highlighting the personal nature of their conversations.

She indicated that these policy discussions often arise “when something is troubling him” or when he seeks to navigate topics that feel particularly significant or personal. However, one notable subject remains off the table: a potential presidential bid in 2028. “He’s very focused on the midterm elections right now,” she asserted.

Looking ahead, she hinted at the possibility of more clarity regarding his ambitions in 2027, stating, “if you come back in 2027 and ask me, I’ll have a better sense of, you know, what he’s thinking in that way. But that’s not the priority in our conversations.”

Currently expecting their fourth child, Usha Vance also launched her new podcast, “Storytime With the Second Lady,” which debuted recently. “It’s a podcast that really is just for children,” she explained. The format features special readers sharing engaging stories and brief discussions related to the books.

“We’re calling them special readers,” she added, describing the show as “sort of just an advertisement for reading.” The podcast aims to inspire young listeners and promote literacy through enjoyable storytelling.
