Wall Street Journal Calls Trump’s $1.7 Billion Fund a “Rotten” Political Slush Fund
The Wall Street Journal's editorial board didn’t hold back, slamming Donald Trump’s proposed $1.7 billion “anti-weaponization fund” with one brutal word: “Rotten.”
This fund, backed by the Justice Department, is part of a controversial deal for Trump to drop a $10 billion lawsuit regarding the leak of his tax records. It aims to compensate individuals who allege they’ve been unfairly targeted by federal authorities.
But critics are raising red flags, suggesting it could morph into a political slush fund.
“Could future historians ask for a better emblem of today’s warped political age?” the conservative editorial board mused in a scathing essay released Tuesday, continuing its trend of critiquing Trump since his return to the political arena.
They described the fund as “an astounding precedent,” warning that if it moves forward, it will likely become a highlight reel of payments to Trump’s inner circle.
“Imagine the fun Democrats will have documenting it all between now and 2028 as the worst kind of Washington political payoff,” they cautioned.
In a separate note, the Rupert Murdoch-owned publication’s editorial team pointed out that Trump might be repeating past mistakes that led to Republican losses in the Senate five years ago.
