Whoopi Goldberg Stranded in Italy as Volcano Erupts, Absent from ‘The View’
Whoopi Goldberg's excuse for missing "The View" is nothing short of explosive: she’s stuck in Italy because of an erupting volcano.

In a pre-recorded video aired during the July 6 episode, Goldberg stated, “I am in Sicily right now, and Mount Etna, who is one of our active volcanoes here in Italy, decided to go off today.”

She detailed the chaos, saying, “We have spent most of the day trying to get back to the United States and all of the airports are closed here.”
Goldberg, 70, humorously remarked that while many have vacation stories, hers “takes the cake.” She quipped, “A volcano ate my homework!”

Mount Etna, the largest volcano in Europe, has been active since June 26, according to Italy's National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology. The situation escalated on July 5 with increased lava flow leading to flight cancellations.

Goldberg wasn’t the only one missing from the show. Co-host Ana Navarro was stranded in Florida due to weather issues, while Sara Haines, 48, dealt with unspecified storm damage.
Navarro, 54, took to Instagram to inform fans of her absence, stating, “I’m sorry I won’t be there tomorrow. I’m sure the other ladies will have great, insightful things to say.”

The absence of these three co-hosts prompted producers to call in Joy Behar, who typically doesn’t appear on Mondays and had just returned from her own hiatus. Behar joined Alyssa Farah Griffin, 37, and Sunny Hostin, 57.

Behar addressed viewers with a tongue-in-cheek remark: “So you may be asking, ‘Why am I here on a Monday?’ I asked myself the same question.”
She added humorously that producer Brian Teta “begged me to come in — on his knees, where he belongs,” explaining the need for her presence due to the missing co-hosts.

Behar also poked fun at Goldberg’s situation, saying she was “using the old volcano excuse.”

Regarding Navarro’s absence, Behar quipped about Miami’s heat: “It’s always hot in Miami. What’s the problem?”
When discussing Haines’ situation, Behar asked the audience if anyone was dealing with storm damage. When no one responded, she joked, “No, just Sara.”
