Alexa Demie Exposes Uncomfortable ‘Euphoria’ Sex Scene: “I Never Did That Again”

Alexa Demie, the actress behind Maddy in "Euphoria," revealed that filming a montage of her character engaging in sexual acts with multiple men was a deeply uncomfortable experience. The scene involved her character cheating on her boyfriend Nate with various partners, including a stockbroker and a roller-rink employee.

In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Demie, 35, expressed her discomfort with the highly sexualized content of the HBO series. She stated, “I’m not saying I don’t love sex, and I think it can be portrayed beautifully and I know the show is portraying the life of teenage girls. But once I did it, I realized, ‘OK, I don’t love how this feels.’”

Demie emphasized that she voiced her concerns on set, and the response was empathetic. “So I said something, and everyone was empathetic, and I never did that again,” she added, highlighting her resolve to avoid similar scenes in the future.

Initially, Demie felt pressured to embrace nudity and explicit scenes to secure her role as Maddy. “I thought that if I said no to doing them, then I wouldn’t have the part,” she recalled. This pressure stemmed from her youth and lack of experience in the industry.

Despite her struggles with the explicit content, Demie noted that Sam Levinson, the show’s writer and creator, was receptive to her concerns. She described her overall experience on set as enjoyable, even with the demanding hours.

After filming Season 2 of "Euphoria," Demie faced personal challenges but took responsibility for her struggles. “I didn’t realize how method I was, and how seriously I was taking everything,” she explained.

“It’s called… acting,” she captioned her post, directly addressing the backlash surrounding her character's racy scenes.

Sweeney’s character joined OnlyFans this season, sparking discussions due to her numerous explicit scenes, including a provocative encounter with Homer Gere, son of Richard Gere.

In a recent episode of the New York Times’ podcast "Popcast," Levinson revealed that Sweeney was enthusiastic about participating in the controversial scenes. He recounted offering her the option to avoid nudity, to which she responded, “Are you kidding? I’m playing an OnlyFans model. You’re telling me you’re going to, like, skirt around it?”
