AOC Confronts Trump Over Military Strikes on Iran: 'Intentional Act of Aggression'
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez expressed strong disapproval of President Donald Trump's recent authorization of military strikes against Iran, denouncing the actions as "unlawful" and "unnecessary," while cautioning that they could lead to "catastrophic" outcomes.
In a social media statement, Ocasio-Cortez highlighted ongoing negotiations in Geneva between both political parties, asserting that these discussions could have averted conflict. Instead, she accused Trump of abandoning diplomacy in favor of military aggression.
"Mr. President: this was not an inevitability. This is a deliberate choice of aggression when diplomacy and security were within reach. Stop lying to the American people. Violence begets violence. We learned this lesson in Iraq. We learned this lesson in Afghanistan. And we are about to learn it again in Iran," she stated emphatically. "Bombs have yet to create enduring democracies in the region and this will be no different," she added.
In light of these developments, Ocasio-Cortez announced her support for a War Powers resolution that would require Trump to seek congressional approval prior to any military action. This call for accountability has resonated with several other Democratic lawmakers since the onset of the attacks early Saturday.

"In moments of war, our Constitution is unambiguous: Congress authorizes war. The President does not. I will do my part to uphold our Constitution by voting YES on Representatives Ro Khanna & Thomas Massie's War Powers Resolution. Every member of United States Congress must join us in rejecting this aimless war," she concluded.
Currently, the U.S. and Israel are engaged in what has been characterized as "major combat operations" in Iran, aiming to dismantle its military capabilities and potentially destabilize the ruling theocratic regime.
Reports indicate that Israeli airstrikes have targeted high-ranking officials, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, with initial assessments suggesting that several key targets have been successfully neutralized.
In retaliation, Iran has launched missiles at Israel and U.S. military bases across the region, including locations in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi condemned the attacks as violations of the UN Charter and labeled them a "clear crime against international peace and security." He asserted that Iran would employ all its "defensive and military capabilities" in response.
