“Whoa, what a loser.” That’s the brutal verdict from the current Commander-in-Chief on his predecessor’s extravagant renovation schemes, which have spiraled into chaos and controversy.
During a charged speech at a state Democratic Party convention in Hanover, Maryland, Biden unleashed a torrent of criticism aimed squarely at Trump’s so-called “vanity projects.” The crowd erupted in cheers as he rattled off a list of Trump’s misguided endeavors.

Biden slammed Trump for tearing down the East Wing of the White House to make way for a ballroom, plastering his name on the Kennedy Center, and even constructing an arch in his own honor. He didn’t hold back on the absurdity of hiring a personal pool guy to fix the Reflecting Pool.
The Trump administration has been knee-deep in a series of renovation projects, including a botched resurfacing of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. Costs have skyrocketed to over $16 million due to persistent algae blooms and damage to the pool’s new aqua blue coating, which officials blame on vandalism.
Critics have zeroed in on Trump awarding a no-bid contract to his “pool guy” for this project, with expenses ballooning past initial estimates of $2 million.
Recent footage reveals chunks of the pool’s coating floating in murky, algae-infested waters. Workers have been seen dumping hydrogen peroxide and other chemicals into the pool in a desperate attempt to combat the algae. Amid these cleaning efforts, a dead duckling was discovered in the water.
Biden didn’t stop at the Reflecting Pool. He accused Trump and his family of exuding “corruption” as they position themselves to rake in billions during a potential second term. “He has no shame, and frankly it’s embarrassing for the country. But Trump? Trump could care less,” Biden declared.
He rallied Democrats to maintain their momentum: “To all you who love our country, my message tonight is straightforward and simple: Get up, dammit. Get up now. Continue this fight!”

In June, plans emerged for a walkway leading down to the Potomac River waterfront from the Kennedy Center, with Trump claiming it honors the original vision of the Memorial’s architects. Cost estimates for this project remain undisclosed.
The White House ballroom project has drawn particular ire, with images of the flattened East Wing shocking many. In March, Trump claimed the ballroom would cost $400 million, funded entirely by private donations. “We have no taxpayer putting up 10 cents,” he insisted.
However, weeks before those comments, contractors warned that total costs could hit $600 million, with taxpayers expected to cover at least half.
At the Kennedy Center, grey tarps and scaffolding obscure the building’s signage amid ongoing legal battles. A judge previously ordered Trump to remove his name from the structure, asserting that only Congress can rename it and that it was intended as a memorial for John F. Kennedy.
The judge has demanded an explanation for why the sign remains covered, leaving the case in limbo.
Other beautification efforts are underway across Washington D.C., gearing up for America’s 250th birthday celebrations this summer, culminating around July 4. Iconic sites like Union Station now display large banners promoting the Trump administration’s focus on “cleaning up” D.C.
