Bill Clinton's birthday message to George Bush drips with a thinly veiled jab at Donald Trump, highlighting the stark political divide in America.
On Monday, Clinton extended birthday wishes to Bush, who turned 80, but not without a sly dig at the current political climate. He emphasized that friendship transcends politics, stating, “long before we’re politicians, we’re fellow Americans and, above all, human beings.”
Clinton's message also touched on the theme of division, a direct nod to the polarizing atmosphere under Trump’s leadership. He stated, “Our country is stronger when we remember that what unites us is greater than what divides us,” without naming Trump directly.

Despite their party differences—Clinton as a Democrat and Bush as a Republican—the two have forged an unexpected friendship. One user on X remarked, “An example to us all. Friendship and bi-partisanship are the way to move things forward in our lives and for our country.”
Another user quipped, “If Trump sees this, he’ll likely sign an Executive Order banning civility, amity, and friendship among former presidents.”
Clinton wasn’t alone in sending birthday wishes. The Obama Foundation also acknowledged Bush’s milestone on X, recalling a handwritten note Bush left for Obama during the 2009 inauguration.

The Foundation’s message highlighted that the letter serves as a powerful reminder that public service should be grounded in grace, respect, and a shared commitment to the country. It noted that the letter is currently displayed in the replica of the Obama Oval Office at the Obama Presidential Center.
“We’re grateful to President Bush for helping ensure a smooth and orderly transition between his administration and that of President Obama,” the message continued.
This statement stands in stark contrast to Trump’s chaotic exit after losing to Joe Biden in 2020. Trump’s refusal to accept the election results led to unfounded claims of voter fraud and culminated in the January 6 Capitol Attack.
One user responded to the Obama Foundation’s message, saying, “Respect from one president to another, one person to another. That’s all we need again.”
