Despite the frantic rush to the hospital and the doctors' attempts to stabilize her heart, Sanz did not survive. Her parents expressed their gratitude for being by her side during her final moments, stating, “Her death was a total shock and unexpected.”

Sanz was 36 years old. She gained fame through the A&E reality series “Born This Way,” which aired for four seasons from 2015 to 2019. The show highlighted the lives of adults with Down syndrome as they navigated personal and professional challenges.

In a poignant tribute, her parents reflected on the impact of her life, saying, “We will forever treasure the gift of her life.” They emphasized the lasting memories of “Cristina moments” that will remain in their hearts.

The series documented Sanz's life alongside her then-husband, Angel, including their wedding featured in a 2018 episode. However, the couple split in 2021, citing the strain of COVID-19 confinement on their marriage.

Sanz's last Instagram post was shared in December 2025, showcasing a moment with her “Born This Way” castmates. The show received critical acclaim, winning three Emmys: one for Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program in 2016 and two more in 2017 for Outstanding Casting and Outstanding Cinematography for a Reality Program.
