Danny Glover's Daughter Exposes Early Signs of His Alzheimer's Nightmare
Danny Glover's shocking revelation of his Alzheimer's diagnosis in 2022 has sent ripples through the public, but his daughter Mandisa is shedding light on the unsettling signs that preceded it.
In a recent interview, Mandisa, 50, recounted how her father's behavior shifted after he received the prestigious Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award in 2022. This accolade, meant to honor his humanitarian efforts, marked a turning point in his cognitive decline.
“The history of my dad is that he remembers every single thing back to 1970,” she stated, emphasizing his extraordinary recall of details. “He’d tell you so much about his parents — and I’ve heard those stories over and over — and pieces were missing.”
Mandisa noticed gaps in her father's storytelling, prompting her to question what was happening. “I said, ‘I wonder what’s going on,’” she recalled, highlighting the alarming changes in his once-vibrant memory.
Now, as she assists in caring for her father, who is 79, she observes fluctuating awareness. “He is aware sometimes and then sometimes not,” she noted, painting a stark picture of the unpredictable nature of Alzheimer's.
Glover himself expressed his struggle with acceptance of the diagnosis. “There are the moments that you keep remembering that validate the fact that you can remember stuff,” he shared. “And there are moments I’ll never forget.”
Alzheimer's affects millions; as of this year, an estimated 7.4 million Americans aged 65 and older are grappling with this relentless brain disorder, the leading cause of dementia.
